10 pounds of Sh** in a 5 pound SACK... Bonneville Car pedal pics!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SamIyam, Feb 13, 2010.

  1. It took our team of highly qualified self proclaimed experts many moons to come up with this one.

And it was the guy who has done the most illegal substances that came up with the final concept. :p

Once we had the concept... Tim, Bob and I got to work... built all the stuff... and it's just about all welded in. (a gusset and the cover need to be finished.

Originally we made some really cool looking pedals... but in the end, I was cramped, and it was a ***** getting into the car.

With these pedals... the clutch is operated by the ball of your foot, and the brake with your heel. It's easier getting into this car than it is a gokart... and it's uber comfortable.

I can put enough pressure on both with no problem...

OMG YOU CAN'T HAVE A HOLE IN THE FIREWALL LIKE THAT!!! (I can hear it now)

Haven actually memorized the entire SCTA rule book (sans all the records and motorcycle stuff) before I began construction, our biggest hurdle was coming up with a way to seal it all off... so Tim has been working on this box.

Back to work... we have 25 more weeks.

Very clever way to get around a problem. Way to think outside the box.

Nice work! We are trying to keep ours in a pretty much standard configuration so as not to be confused, but then we have no clutch.

    Doh! haha.

So does your foot just float between them or will there be some sort of rest built into the floor? Hard to fully judge space without a foot in there. The whole idea is cool and that cover is neat.

Nice work! Any more pics of the rest of the car? Or a link to an earlier thread of the build?

Have you tried it with you driving boots on? :)

One other little thing you might want to check, make sure your drivers foot is not resting on either pedal during a run. I put a foot rest in my car so the driver doesn't rest his foot on my $1200 clutch and burn it up during a p***.

That's why, like Rich, I have a hand brake.

If you look closely in the picture you can see the foot rest on the floor & the clutch pesal back in the darkness. We hadn't finished the car yet in this shot but that part of the layout hasn't changed.

Good Luck on your project & HAVE FUN!!

  13. Good point that you and Michael bring up about the foot rest... I;m thinking now that a rest above the pedal on the firewall would be my best bet.

My 3.3/5 shoes are slimmer than the shoes I wear in the shop to work... so, we're good there... and in fact, even if we stepped up to the /20 boots if we stuck a blown motor in the car, there is plenty of room.

    Thanks for the ideas...

  14. My foot actually rests flat on the floor, under the clutch pedal, if I want.

We're running in the V4F/GMR gl*** on a 123mph record...

It's going to be tough getting leverage pushing the pedal down, instead of away from you.

Nah, take a look at this post.

    Previous banger/roadster post

Almost looks like he's sitting in a favorite recliner – feet pointed squarely at the floor.

I wasnt that clever, I used the Wilwood swinging pedals with the cyl. facing to the driver. There just is not enough room in a roadster, by the time you put everything in them there is barely enough room for the driver. Nice build!

    very damn cool!!!!!

  20. That's the TRUTH!

Like our tach... We're battling to get the thing under the tonneau/windshield... if I make that tall as I want (like on the Vaughn's car) then it covers the tach, but I'll have a harder time getting in!

The one thing I am uber happy with is the seat/cage... when you see this car on the salt, ya need to sit in it!

Very nice workmanship. Just out of interest, how much lay back is in your seat ? I don't know how I missed your previous posts.......

  23. Here's the angle of the seat... in this pic we were working on getting the height of the first bar in the birdcage... I have my firesuit, head sock and helmet on.

We are making a carbon fiber seat... the one in these pics is fibergl***, just to make the mounts... and check fit...

Very, very nice work.... Thx for the pic's.... What kind of guard cat do you protecting your garage?

What front tires are you running.... I'm asking, as I just picked up my rear 16" rims and M/T Bonneville tires for my P-38 tank project...

This is out of curiosity. I'm not a roadster guy and am not too famiiar with the rules. I'm a bike guy. There are a couple of roadster guys in the club and I listen to talk. One of the discussions was about seats. One guy had a plastic racing seat which he was changing out for a metal seat. Looking at rule 3.D.1 it says "The seat shall be constructed of metal or alloy....." "Composite seats must be pre-approved by the technical committee". ***uming carbon fiber is a composite does it need pre-approval or is it OK from the get go? Not meaning to be a smart *** here. Just curious.

  26. Yes, they need pre-approval...

Composite seat will need tech committee approval but I think he already mentioned taking care of this in another thread.

I thought I read somewhere that this was going to be a multi-purpose car (land speed and street use - thus the reason for the bolt in cage). Will the pedal setup change when this thing goes to the street?

  28. It's becoming less street and more race. :)

The conversion for the street will be so we can run it at the FAST hill climbs as a "street car" and also to run down to John's Burger on Friday nights...
