Actually, I could put that Met in the trunk of my wife's '78 New Yorker for a spare back-up car!

This is weird, but I had one and only have annoying memories of it, it was the first driving old car I had. I was glad to see it go, lost money on it, etc. But just 2 days ago I was remembering it and actually was remembering what I LIKED about it, then I got home and saw this post! I used to drive mine to Art Center from Long Beach. Bought it for $1,200 painted it, drove it for a few years, sold it for $900... haha-

I've got four Metros -- all projects. My wife's mother was a studio musician in LA and bought one new. It was a Hudson Metro from before the merger and a monotone tomato soup color. I saw a pro street Metro in the 1000 Oaks shop where the Ferrari Challenge race cars were stored and serviced in the late 90s and it was more interesting to me than the Italian exotica.

I would love to get my wife a Metro, but there are two problems:

    1) Now that we have kids, she wants to only drive things with all the safety bells and whistles (can't blame her there); and

    2) The only old car she really wants is a '53-'55 Corvette.

Well, there's also #3: Until my student loans are paid off, all we can afford is to keep my Falcon and her Blazer on the road.

Lois Lane had one, too. This one is supposed to be her actual car from the original Superman TV series.

Hudson and Nash merged in May 1954 to become American Motors Corporation. The Met came out at that same time. It was designed before the merger as a Nash, and built in England by Austin. Hudsons and Nashes were still separate lines sold by the new AMC company. Mets were sold as Hudson Metropolitans and Nash Metropolitans from 1954 until the end of the 1957 model year; then they were sold as their own line by American Motors dealers, from the 1958 model year until 1962.

Any 1958 and newer Metropolitan is usually (incorrectly) listed as a Nash Met. Nash did not exist after the 1957 model year, so those cars are properly referred to as Metropolitans (NO Nash). Trivia? Hell, yeah.

Probably more than you wanted to know about Mets, but since they are the current topic, here ya go!

Obviously nobody told you about the joys of cl***ic (?) British car brakes..! These things have a predisposition to corroding and leaking. do I tell you about taking a girlfriend on a 4-week holiday to New Zealand and coming back to find the hydraulic system for the brakes in her then 3 year-old Triumph Spitfire had corroded from lack of use?

20 years ago, my brother bought a really clean MGA from an old guy who'd parked it up in his garage many years previously. While I got the engine running smoothly in just a few minutes, I ended up rebuilding the entire braking system before we could test drive it.

You can have the cylinders sleeved with br*** and with modern seals, the problem is pretty much cured. There's always next Valentine's

    That's a Rambler, not a Metropolitan.

If you like Metro's check out the link in my sig. I've been restoring them for about 15 years. The website is kinda hokey but we are building a new one.
