I'm betting that many of you have already seen this video before. I saw it for the first time on VHS about 15 years ago - right around the time that the DVD revolution started. Of course, my VHS player soon broke and was replaced by a DVD player. One...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
One of my favorites....it doesn't get better then Indy with Buster runnin the christmas tree and givin you the thumbs up on the startin line... T.H.
Thanks Ryan, nothing gets me geared up to spend a day in the shop like great old dragster footage! Have thought about putting a flat panel in the shop just for videos like this, but afraid I would not get anything done.
Seems to me that this was full length before? Or is this what is on YouTube? In the early 70's I saw what I believe was this at the theatre. Maybe it was something else. I've never quite figured it out.
This is a great DVD, I've had it for a while, and love it. Me and my pop's watch it together everytime he comes to town.....
If you like slingshot drasters, come to Tulsa Racewy Park on the dates listed below. I'm organizing a monthly FED/Alt series. Think we'll have 8 to 16 rails per race. Blown, injected tire smoking, wheel-standing action! As it was, here and now. May 1 June 5 July 10 August 14 Sept. 25 -- (Nitro Nationals)
That was cool reminds me of those cool drag car racing models i used to build thanks. Knuck from indiana.
Just finished watching it from start to finish my only beef is i wish we could have seen more footage of the push vehicles and the general field behind all the top guys other than that great movie and very cool to see ther is history like that out there on the web!
I hadn't ever seen that video, thanks for posting it. Afer I watched it I dug through a closet and found about 20 Diamond P videos of drags from the '80s and some compilation tapes from earlier. I've got to get them copied onto DVD before they fade too much. Might watch one right now.
Thanks, Ryan. Drag racing as it shud be. I am thankful to have lived and raced in those times. 5 light tree and 7" slicks in the stock classes. Raced at Half Moon Bay and Fremont, 68-69. I did poorly in A/Stock, but what a blast, and this video brings it all back. Hearing/seeing an FED push started down the return road is magical. And Don Garlits with a pickup/camper shell and trailer - hard to believe it was so simple, but that's the same way it was in '69 when we saw him at Sears Point. Memories.... I heard no mention of Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, my idol back then - surprised.
thanks! I have never seen this footage till now. It was awesome. I used to live in Indy and ive been to 3 U.S. nationals at what was still Indianapolis raceway park or IRP as we all called. O'reillys bought the place now so thats the current name but still a awesome place with lots of history. I never knew that the snake and mongoose race rails till now. Always saw them in their funny car days I guess. Now; quit reading this and get the hell out there and race, lol.
Thanks Ryan , for some great racing ! I really loved those days watching them on TV on The Wild World of Sports when I was a kid . I always wanted a "Rail" but never built one . Now I can't afford one ! They are and always will be my favorite ! The front engine dragster were just soooo Damn Kool ! Really gets the heart pumping ! Are there anymore or a place we can get the old drag races on DVD ? I would love to get some to show in the garage when I am working or anytime I want to remember the Greatest Days in Drag Racing History ! Thanks again , Ryan ! RetroJim
Cool I wonder, who was the guy that didn't quite make it to the push car's tailgate? (part 1, bout 45 seconds in) I could sit and watch those old stock classes run for hours!
The 1968 Nationals was one of the greatest events ever and I still have my 1968 Nationals Drag Racing Anual program with Don Garlits on the cover. Cost back then it was a buck. These are the years that made drag racing what it is today. I have magazines from 1957 on up when they used to cost .25 cents and the memories I get from looking at them from time to time are price less. Even the old Eastern Drag News from the 60's are cool to look at and think about all the fun I had in those days. Jimbo
Thanks Ryan. I'm so pumped up to show my Dad - He ran in B/SR with the A-model I'm currently building @ Indy Nats in 1968 (car in Avatar is in '68 in race trim). I've got a jacket patch, but never seen movies from the actual '68 meet. Rockin! Chad
