I am working on a '62 comet wagon. I am doing some suspension upgrades and wanted to clarify what fits. Will the front suspension components from a '67-68 Mustang\Cougar work, or does it have to be '65-66?

  2. i put an R & c motorsport mustang 11 front clip into my '64 comet , it went in fairly easily and has all the mod cons like rack and pinion, big discs etc so i could strongly recommend this setup.

Yeah, I have considered that and several others, but I want to do the early Mustang swap instead, just need to know if the '67-68 stuff works like the '65-66 stuff does.

The '67 is about an inch wider on each side; not likely that it will work without modifications.

As in the A-arms are wider? I am not taking the front subframe, just the suspension components themselves. Please clarify

Wheres the "upgrade" in running slightly newer drum brakes or even the oddball 4 piston calipers that early Mustangs used?
I would have figured you'd be looking for info on doing a Maverick or Grenada spindle swap.

I always thought the extra width of the 67-68 was in the frame rails & thus the center link is wider compared to the 65-66, but the spindles should work.

Also the 67 (only) has a "compliance strut" so the lower arms are oddball.

The 65 stuff is all available new and should work with any Mustang /
Maverick / Granada spindle / brake setup.

Pre 65 Comet / Falcon have a different steering sector dia. & the spindle setup is different, so use 65 & up parts.

I think you will need a 65 V8 Falcon Center link also, as the Mustang is too wide (even the 65-66).

If you elect to go with the 64 & older stuff, I've got a pair of 64 V8 (5lug) brakes & spindles you can have for shipping & a case of beer, but you'll have to wait till spring

On my 65 I went with new control arms and a pair of Granada spindles with Granada tie rod ends.
The only mod that was required was changing around the hard brake lines a bit.

I am going with a coil-over setup, but I basically need the uppers and spindles. It will get aftermarket brakes and a new lower. I may do a tubular set up, but I am looking at all the options.

Personally, I would love an aftermarket subframe, but it just isn't in the cards.

Nobody knows. I know the tubular stuff works, it is for the ealry Falcon platform, what I am not sure of is the factory stuff, which I may need (upper arms and spindles)

What benefits do you expect from these changes?

The '67-68 arms will not work, they are longer than '65-'66 Mustang and will set the wheels too far out. The lowers are designed to be used with camber adjustment eccentrics and will probably not fit the Comet with no eccentrics. The uppers have the mounting bolts on the shaft set further apart, and will not fit your spring towers. Use '65-'66 V8 Mustang upper and lower control arms, the complete steering ***embly for a '65-'66 V8 Mustang will work best with the exception of the center link, which has to be '65 V8 Falcon/Comet, (1.5" narrower than Mustang) and get outer tie rod ends for whatever spindle you choose to use. The Mustang pitman arm has the same 1" sector size as the Comet steering box, so it will bolt on.

KK- That is what I needed to know, thanks. So, no way to reuse the '61 center link? I will probably be doing a rack and pinion anyway, but if I don't...

No, the 6cyl center link is completely different from '65 V8 and will not connect to any of the V8 parts.
