Just picked up what I believe to be a 1929 Model A 5w Coupe have several questions. First is this a year model 1929? What front axle is below this car? Is split wishbones the way to go for a 4 bar radius like pete and jakes in the front? What brand-kind of wheels are on the car? I spare door came with the car what is the door off of it is a very clean door? What would be your first step on this project?
The axle is a dropped and filled axle - keep it, Front stubs and brakes are 49-54 Chev!!!! The rear wishbones are model A - junk them I'd say the door is off a closed cab pickep or a T coupe
What a find.. and with a super frame. If you have never built a rod before... subscribe to a couple of rod magazines.. then go to shows, cruise ins, and look and talk to the owners.. if there is a rod club near you join -- many times these are real sources of info and parts.. especially the underconstruction folks. ..don't dive in head first and burn out early Take your time--- make it safe. It's all fun
Yes, it's a 29. The extra door is not Ford. I don't know what it is. Judging by the use of 54ish Chevy spindles/brakes and having a GM dropout rear end, I'm guessing the ch***is was set up in the 70's. Besides the rear wishbone setup, it looks like a good setup and good quality and I'd use it as is. My first step would be to get some Pete Jake rear ladder bars and mount them up. Then I'd tackle the bodywork
Great score. The axle is an old Ford. The only way to tell the year is by measuring the boss height and the distance from king pin hole to king pin hole. Look it up. The HAMB will tell you.
I wouldn't change the wish bones out, if I were you. Why re-invent the wheel. Its already set up. Just build the motor mounts and fix up the body. Drop your motor and trans in it and have fun with it. No sense in pulling it apart only to be back to square one in a year or so from now. Besides, the geometry is already set up. If you're going to change the bones out, why not just replace the axle with independent front suspension as well? I am being facetious of course. But, the idea of changing out cool old bones for an ugly four link errors on the side of ridiculous.
Does the extra door have a sheet metal strip across the top of the door? It appears to be '29 or '30 Dodge, maybe a coupe door. Not a Ford.
don't think the door is a 29 Dodge Coupe door, mine has a handle across the belt line. can you give me the dimensions of the door, and window opening and beltline?, If it would match up to the door I need, I would be interested in buying it.
Unknown door measurements Approx. overall door appx. 26 1/4 by 44 3/4 Window opening appx. 22.5 by 14 1/8 Belt line from bottom of door appx 25 with 1 1/2 belt line Center of hinges appx 29 Center to center Es***? Ford? Dodge? Very rust free door would need little to no work.
Keep the drums, I had a 53 chevy and I loved the brakes, enough to stop that big old hulk and no doubt will stop that coupe even better.
Where is a good place to buy patch panels? I also need a few door hinges-door latch etc. good products-speedway? Sell the wheels or keep?
I have bought some odds and ends from speed way, but, I generally try not to buy their Chinese ****. Although, for price and availability, sometimes it is too hard to stick with my economic ideology. I personally like the wheels. But, then again I am going to be runnining an old set of American Torque Thrust Mags on the back of my '31 coupe, when its all said and done.
