I did. Looks like the craftsmanship is great, but the website is not so much. Still, it isn't a repop outfit with molds of everything, but rather a fab shop with lots of experience in this particular car from what I could gather. Regardless, 1-800 shopping for pieces that were never m*** produced is a waste of time from where I'm sitting.

  6. Never understood why the HAMB hates the Milner car. Sheesh guys.....it's only an ICON. "like it or not"

And shooting a build towards a car already built, is a whole lot easier than building from a pencil sketch.

"And I just got the Fonz autograph yesterday, dammit."

Cant think of any hotrod television show besides the Munsters that had anything cool in it......well Leave to Beaver, but to see a hotrod in that show would cause you to go insane with re-runs trying to catch something.

    It's Tony Nancy Yellow!

    ****. wrong film.

  8. Dang.....and this whole time I thought, yellow-red-white-orange where true hotrod colors. Carl hmmmmm......guess green is the new HOTROD well, that & primer of any available color.

  9. Like the car or not, it influenced a lot of younger guys to get into hot rodding, and that is a good thing in my book. By the way, the guy was just asking if the parts were available for the build, don't know why people have to beat him up for asking a question. I thought that was what forums were for. Pat.

I like the show, the cars, and the actors. Kinda takes you back in time when things were simplier.

That's funny! I thought I was the only hot rodder that thought they used an ugly example of a Deuce coupe in that movie. It has taken on an iconic status for the guys that saw it as their first hot rod. It's blasphemy to them to criticize it. I get that but there were some much cooler looking Deuce coupes than that one.

I loved the movie though and couldn't complain about it. At least it was period correct for a low budget street hot rod of 1962.

Its not unique when every show you go to has a wannabe clone with about half the right parts. I appreciate what it is but still think its ugly

Because the Milner 32 represents what hot rodding in the 50's and early 60's is all about! Anyone can build or pay to have built a Chip Foose type rod. Then what do you have? You have a rod that can only be driving in parades or taken to car shows. No thanks! If i cannot drive it and scorch the tires on occasionally the it is of no use to me. The Milner 32 is the finest representation of American Hot Rodding i know of!

If you're gonna build something out of a George Lucas film, go for something out of his other movies, at least. You could have a bright yellow hot rod..

Or the Slave I. Think about the options here!

And it's not the fact it's a Milner clone that bugs me as much as someone putting another freakin' SBC in a '32..

  20. Agree!

Same reason we don't need another General Lee clone. Stop ruining good **** because you can't think outside of the box.

I too like the graffiti coupe. At the time the movie came out I was into muscle cars. That coupe lit a fire in me for vintage tin. I can appreciate all the pros and cons of the car but I think It led me to look at the past with a greater appreciation of how a car like that came to be. I started to read all I could get my hands on. I now want a flathead powered bellytank. So to make it short the graffiti coupe spauned something within that I hope I can p*** on to my kids.

  23. like it or not
if it wasnt for american graffiti
kids that grew up in the seventies "me included" would have never known what hot rods were or ever become interested in them at all.
we'd probably all be driving red camaros like hot rod magazine told us to.:D

as long as we are each in tilted to our own opinion ( oh wait this is the HAMB and that isn't true ). I have to agree about the lack of beauty on that 32. I like that car due to its fame but if that car had never been in that movie, And I saw it at a cruise I'd more than likely just walk p***ed it....

    1. The firewall insert was a flat piece of aluminum cut to fit. It is stainless steel now.
    2. The headers were custom sprint car headers made by Franklin's Shop in California.
    3. The rear nerf bar is an after market front brush guard for a 1971 Alfa Romeo Duetto made by AMCO. Part number 5530. They are no longer made but are out there.
    4. The front fenders are fabricated. The rear fenders are modified stock '32.
    5. You are correct about the tail lights.

    Good luck on your car.

    :eek:The Unintentional Clone:eek:

O.K., Love it or hate it, the car made a huge public impact on Hot Rodding, probably more of a impact than any other single Hot Rod in history. More people (the great unwashed) around the world ***ociated the term "Hot Rod" with "this" Deuce coupe (IMHO), than any other single hot rod in history. And I would far rather see this car as a representation than a large number of some cars being built today that are suppose to be "Traditional Hot Rods".

Maybe there were technical errors for the "hot rod police" to pick apart, But hot rodding is all about personal interpretation,..... right ? (we see that all the time on the HAMB) And during that time period there were very few Deuce Coupes (read that, "Any Real Hot Rods") running around,.... All but the last nail was in the coffin of traditional hot rodding or hot rods in general. everybody it seamed was doing 60's factory hot rods. and pretty much only Rod & Custom was still featuring them,.... (Just before R&C died the first time).

I never warmed up to the sectioned grill shell,... I even told my Brother that the first time we seen the movie,.. but the fact remained that this was the first time either one of us ever seen a realistic depiction of a real hot rod and a real hot rodder. Back then you were just so happy to see a hot rod on any street that it got you excited,... even the ones that looked a little goofy (they were well represented at the 1972 Nats, Detroit).

At that time a chopped top and a fenderless car was a mortal sin, even in the Hot Rod world,... everything was "Resto Rods" with Ansen sprints, Cragar SS, etched gl***, wood dashboards, mascot radiator caps, wind wings, step plates.... etc. there was a sea of every shade of Brown with Black fenders,.....

In contrast, this Chopped, Fenderless, "In your face Yellow" Deuce coupe with chrome reverses, cheater slicks, multi carbed SBC, Manual trans, outside headers, something you haven't seen in a decade comes rolling onto the movie screen,..... It just about made you jump out of your skin !,..

We hadn't seen anything that true to 1962 Hot Rodding in a very, very long time,... and for Hollywood to depict it right was a incredible pleasure! If you could get past the sectioned grill shell,.... this car just flat "Turned me on !" and re-awakened the hot rod flame in my brother and I, like throwing gas on a match. I remember coming home from the theater,... going out to the garage and marking off the 3/W for a 4" chop,.... and screw what other people thought.

Everyone has a opinion on just about everything,... even if you down right hate this car,... I believe "Real Hot Rodding" would have just about totally died without this lil' Deuce Coupe,.. But that's MY OPINION !

In the early 80's I got a really rough Deuce 5/W body in trade,... (I allowed $600.00 on it) I had a spare Deuce frame I picked up in Hillman Mi. for $75.00,..... And a garage full of left over parts from other projects,... So I started to put all this stuff together,... we started calling it "The Pot Luck Deuce",..... (I was building it on a dare, at that time everybody said you couldn't build a 32 Ford Hot Rod for under 10 K!:D ) it wasn't intentional,
but at about the $1,800.00 mark,.... this, minus intake, headers, and grill shell rolled out of the garage on a sunny Saturday morning.

The intake was on the workbench (for another project) the headers were in the rafters (for another project) , and the grill shell was just brought home from a swap meet the weekend before for about $35.00 for a buddy. Some friends came over,....and friends,.... being friends ,... started to mock that stuff up on this car. heres what it looked like.

I ended up (unintentionally) selling it a few weeks later, I was trying to build this car on the "extreme low down dirty cheap" with discarded parts, everything was used, abused, straightened out, hand made , home made, and whipped together. It was a turd in the truest sence of the word.,.... but I can't tell you what a mistake I felt I made as it was on someone else's trailer heading in the opposite direction.

No,no,no,-it's a cross between piss yellow and puke green. Personally, I love the Milner coupe. That car and movie are what really got me interested in hot rods.

LOL, i have been building & involved in hot rodding all my life. I would say 40+ years to be exact. Yes, it may be a filler for a movie but most any car buff can identify that car. There are many who have never hear of or seen the other cars you speak of. I was trying to make a point in that the Milner coupe as portrayed in the movie left a legacy that many many of us can relate to during our young years growing up and hot rodding. The Milner coupe represents a car that a guy could build and drive without sinking a fortune in it. Who during the 50's or 60's could afford to build an Edelbrock or Isky style rod? NOT ME! My post is not to compare the quality of the Milner coupe to a Foose built car. Again, It is about a period in time when hot rodding was real and fun.
