Hello from Montana, I learned of this site only yesterday after talking with Rocky Phillips. I used to race at all the central valley tracks back in the '60s and early '70s. Madera, Fresno, Lodi, Vernalis, Kingdon, Sacramento and Vaca Valley. Others out of the valley including Fremont and Salinas. It is great to hear of the new meets at the Eagle field airport (Fresno Dragways Reunion)and hope to attend someday. My first car was a 6-cyl 57 Chevy but I didn't start drag racing until purchasing a 1962 340 HP Corvette. Madera used a flag starter at my first few races. Later a 1966 Chevy Nova SS w/327 and 350 HP was raced at all the mentioned tracks. Boy do I miss all those good old days!
Cool I used to live in Firebaugh back in the 80s. Now I live here in Dallas Tx hoping to get someone to move my project from Ca to here in Dallas. Anyway back to Central Cali I used to go to the races in Madera at the oval track, I wander if its stil there and and never missed the gathering of warbirds at the Madera airport! Welcome todnbuz!!!
My Dad used to race at Madera ..Raisin City...Kingdon....Vacaville...etc back in the 60's...used to run a Poppy red 57 Chevy panel wagon called Ontos...ran with the Windjammers out of A****er....then in 64 he bought a brand new Canary yellow 64 Buick Skylark 300 4 speed car....raced that for years too...my grandfather ran a pink 55 Chevy down at Madera called Poppas Pet....I'll try to get some pics of the old days scanned and posted.
