Does anyone have any racing Mavericks or Comets from the 70's Pro Stock, Super Modified, Floppers, G***ers, I don't care, but I'm looking for Super Modifieds as my car was once one and I might find an old picture of it before it was painted in UPS colors. I saw a few Super Modified's in the Modified Production thread but I'd like to make an all Maverick/Comet drag car thread. Can any one please contribute?

Cool cars but wrong board. I figured I'd be nice and let you know before somebody yells at you. Again I dig those cars!

Did you read the guidelines? This site ain't about anything newer than 64 I think it is, the drag race threads skirt the issue a little, but to post a thread like you did, FNG, yikes, they got rules.

Oldhippie.com would be the best site for that....but the site is down. I hope it comes back up! A bunch of cool Fomoco stuff there. I have a 70 Maverick....but this ain't the site for that stuff.

You might do a websearch for Arlen Fadley, Jim Stevens, and Rickie Smith. I think they all ran Mavericks successfully in SM.

Must be on your end- www.oldhippie.com forums are up & running. Was on there last night & this morning with no problems.

And yes, there's a huge amount of vintage drag pics. If you can't find exactly what you're looking for over there, post up a message & ask. :D

Jim Stevens car was the first Super Modified Maverick built, shadowing the Car Craft project Camaro, making a debut at the 1975 Winternationals.
Won the High Desert Spring Regionals that year, still with the factory paint and quick lettering job. Went to Several National Event Finals including in the IHRA Pro Modified Cl***, won the March Meet in 77, a Div 7 Championship and the Winternationals in 1980. Retired after the 1981 Mile High Nationals.Held the A/SM & B/SM record for most of that period.

Jim went on to Great success in Land Speed Racing Ford Flatheads and Ford Four Cylinders in his Roadster and currently the Costella & Yacoucci Streamliner & Kelley & Hall Belly Tank Lakester.

    Wrong board.

But there is something fun about a 4dr race car. Especially a successful one.

I checked out the Maverick forum....pretty neat stuff there. I read how to install Explorer rear disc brakes on a 8" rear end. Lots of cool drag pics there once you learn to navigate the site.

I sure hope you find the history you're looking for. That Maverick site mentioned earlier is great, lots of info. We love Mavericks at our house. My 16 daughter drives the doors off of hers.

Me pappy bought a new "GRABBER" back in '72. This thing had a lemon yellow paint job with lime green stripes from the factory on it. Had a 302 with the C-4 I might have some pics of it. Too bad it didn't last long.. Cancer got the best of that car... And me own pappy also. :( ...... I wonder how many '72's were painted in that color combo?? I've never seen another one like it.

I know this thread is not HAMB friendy, but thanks to all for posting the Maverick drag car pics. Brings back memories of my youth watching drag racing. About the only "old cars" that I would like to get that are not HAMB friendly are a Maverick and Meyer Manx style dune buggy.

  30. Are you sure it didn't commit suicide?
