Can anyone tell me about these? Supposedly came on late-60s Pontiacs.
I'd never heard about them, and would like to learn all I can about 'em!
What cars, what years, etc. etc. etc.
    Thanks,
    -Brad

I've got a set of the 9.5-inch Buick fronts, and Pontiacs also had some this size--these aren't what I'm talking about, though. The ones I've seen are 11 inches, 2-inches wide.
    Thanks,
    -Brad

If I'm thinking of the same wheel/drum it's a design more like a wide-5 where the drum has provisions for mounting the wheel out near the edge rather than a more compact bolt pattern like 5 X 4 3/4"

If that is the drums you are talking about then they would be 8 lug wheels and if memory serves me correctly they came on the big Pontiacs (bonnevilles) and were an option. Do a search for a Pontiac Super Duty 421

    You mean these?

Got a set on my 63 Grand Prix. They were available as an option fron '59 to "68 I believe. Were developed by Kelsey Hayes for the stock car circuit but back then stock cars were "stock cars" so what you ran on Sunday, you had to be able to buy across the counter on Monday so a certain percentage of these "racing" parts found there way onto production cars. I think they were available as an option an all maodels but usually are seen on high end and performance models.

That's the short version of the story. Hope it helped.

No, the ones I'm talking about aren't the 8-lug wheel/drums.
These look like a 12-inch Buick drum, but are 11 inches with 3-inch wide shoes.

    hey,Brad.
this past weekend on the diy network, they were working on a pontiac.
i forget the year model, but i wanna' say '67 gto.
they were doing a drum/to disc swap.
the name of the show was
"weekend mechanic" i believe. not unlike yourself.

search the diy net and you should come up with 'sumpn.

I have a finned aluminum drum off of a '62 Poncho that had the cop-car options. When I look at it, something just looks slightly different from the 45-fin Buick drums, but I can't seem to figure out what it is. I sold all my Buick drums so I have nothing to compare it to now...
