it's easy.all i did was cut one piece of firewall out for dist and reverse it and walla done.y blocks are reliable engines.i have been using them since i was a kid.you don't need a sbc.
Y blocks, the stealth ford motor, looks great in any ford! Sbc's good, but been done to death, nothin new there.
yeah who dosent have a sbc in there car now in days i have a y-block in my 57 f100 i never have problems with it and it never heats up on me
i don't have a y block in mine, got its big brother, i would bury my car before it would have a chevy engine in it...
Come on now. The more you advertise the greatness of the y-block the more expensive they get. People used to have a hard time giving them away. I am currently looking for one for my next project and would like to get one on the cheap.
57FORD...It's easy HUH? why would you cut a hole in the firewall, and then reverse it? seeing is believing, so you got any pics!...POP.
This ride is one of my favorites, it would be bad ass with any vintage V8, but it's running a Y BLOCK and to me that makes it perfect!
They came as the factory v8 starting in 54, and have seen a few put into earlier ones quite often, wish mine still had the y-block instead of being switched over to a 302.
Guys, I have stock '30 A Frame. I would like to Box Frame from firewall forward, add in a center X member and weld up the original Crossmembers. Is this combination going to handle my 292 Y Block. Budget is low, any ideas? Thanks.
Count me in! I have been singing the praises of the Y since I joined the HAMB in '97. Love these engines.
I have a 57 Vette motor in my channeled 33 and the firewall still had to be set back to keep a stock hood... it is vintage and performs well... but, it doesn't sound like a Y-Block... and it doesn't have the torque... a high performance 312 is more work and expense but I think it is worth it... so when the 27 is done I'll have have to have a 57 grudge match
I am going back to a Y block in my 55,the 351-W does not seem to have the torque the original 272 did and since I am not in a hurry I will find the parts I need at reasonable prices to build it. Once I get the motor apart and find out what I need I will be looking at swapmeets for pistons and bearings but will by modern gaskets and if it takes me a couple years I dont care as it still has a motor and can be driven untill I get the 292 done.
