I'm looking to get a MIG and trying my hand at some patch panels. Of all the little gas/gasless MIGs out there for cheap, what is a good one to use for learning with? Any suggestions, hints, *****es, rants, etc... are welcome.

I've been working on cars for way to long to not know how to do this....

Get a HH140 if you are strapped. But trust me you will be much happier if you get a 220V setup like a HH175

I have a Lincoln. I picked it up at Home Depot for a little over $400 as a complete kit. Works great and handles every job I throw at it.

Like everyone said, stay away from the no name ****. Especially the ones where the wire is hot all the time.
I had one here. Even my bud, the best welder I know, couldn't run a decent bead with it.
I got so mad I threw it out the front door.
Then I remembered it wasn't mine.
But the owner is doing 15 to life for trying to kill his X, so hopefuly he'll forgetabou*** by the time he gets out! [IMG]
Flux core wire is fine for sticking metal together, but it's messy. Way too messy for bodywork.
If you buy a welder without the valves and such for gas, it will cost you more in the long run to convert.
So save your lunch money, buy a good name brand complete with the gas setup, and you'll have years of use out of it.
