I need a favor. I have a set of '49 letters I want to put on the hood of my '50 and I want to do it correct to the '49. Can anybody get me some measurements of the layout, how far up from the hood edge and what the spacing is in between the letters? Also, what do the openings for the posts look like? I imagine they are oval and sort of look like you could make them by drilling two holes and connecting them with a cutoff wheel. If I could get drill bit diameter and an overall height of the opening that would be great. Lastly, what do the retaining clips look like? I need to get these still. Anybody sell them (I checked Dennis Carpenter and MAC) or have some for sale. Thanks for your time. 1950merc
Sorry I can't help ya out with your questions but your thread minded me of what I do at junkyards. I pop all the letters off all the cars I come across and buy them from the junkyard owner and use them to spell words in my s****books. If you don't want to use those letters on your car just let me know and I'll buy them off you.
This isn't the scrabook message board! But thats a really cool idea... Besides you should sell them to Denise, I thought you were sposed to weld those holes up?
Denise I just paid good money for the set. Won't be getting rid of them. Would be interested how your stolen/acquired letters look in a s****book though. SlowandLow I'm thinking outside the box. I would tell you the whole idea, but then I'd have to kill you.
Don't know where you are going with the stolen comment but I don't think you read her post well enough. Denise can defend herself well enough but I thought that comment was out of line. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. Denise said: "buy them from the junkyard owner" B
Follow up email me at e49merc@aol.com I will take the letters off my hood and measure the holes and also take pictures and down load them to you. Thanks Huff
I wasn't going anywhere. I read just fine. Out of line? Have you read some of the stuff that gets posted on the HAMB? I think you read too much into it. If she was offended she could have told me and I would have immediately apologized.
