How many guys are searching for your ride you shouldn't of sold

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by carcrazyjohn, Feb 18, 2010.

  1. About 30 years ago, I had found a 38 Chevy Coupe Body and frame...that was going to be my baby! Well, I sold it after 6 years of hard work and my first Black Lacquer paint job....the body was perfect, straight as an arrow..

About a year ago I found out where it was and went to take a look....I shouldn't have done that...I found it under a tarp, where it had been for several years. It was up to its stainless bumpers in the ground...UGH, I was really sad that day.

The black paint still looked shiny and I had to find the left lower quarter that I worked till my fingers were raw....Thankfully it still looked great. The gas welded 6" panel and fender reveals I made from scratch were still perfect...BUT I wish I had never seen the car again...No, it wasn't for sale.

    Sigh!!

    Murph:(

i am looking for this fiat. my dad sold it in 1975 in this condition. rumor is that it went to Texas around the same time. it probably got cut up and made into a bracket car, but who knows. i thought maybe it would show up on here sometime if its still together. I could do a clone pretty easy, but getting back my dads original car would be a lot cooler.

My 32 ford five window, sold it in 1982 for $3500.

The guy has money and has had it professionally rebuilt. I've never seen it, but I have heard it's damn nice. Every time I've tried to check it out the hasn't been home. Owns some mid-level racing team that takes up his time when he's not making millions.
But Like some of the other guys here, I'm not sure I want to see it again. I need to scan some pics of it to put on here.

We built a house back in `92 so I sold both `68 Camaros to help with costs. One locally and another went to M***achusetts. When the local guy retired he needed money to pay off his house so I was able to get the orange RS back at just under double what I originally sold it for. Didn`t matter. I wanted it back!

Two years later I get a phone call that some dealer had bought the second car (Raspberry pink RS/SS prostreet-ex Sept `88 Hot Rod cover car) from a guy in Boston and my name was still on the ***le. After negotiations for two weeks it was headed back to Ohio to join the other one. Didn`t expect to see either of them again. Both were exactly the same condition as when they were sold sixteen years earlier. Don`t give up. It can happen.
Still looking for the straight axle `68 g***er style I sold in 1987. Heard it was in Springfield, Ohio last year. Black & gold with spiderweb panels and a chrome straight axle, `gl*** front,15% engine setback & olds rear.
    Seen it?

    Bill

I will soon be searching for my first car. it's in my shop, I just can't find all of it.

  8. Had a couple I should have kept and while still looking, they have never turned up anywhere ****ed into the black hole of old rides. One a 66 Ford Custom with 427 in it seen here I street raced in the early 70's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7HV8AGypDw
Another I built in HS was a 52 MGTD with 289 Ford in it. Sold to a guy who moved down the Jersey Shore and lost contact. I know that guy never did anything with it. Lastly a 38 Plymouth Business coupe that belonged to local musician Lou Caddy that went to Queens, NY and never appeared again.

My Grandfather did a 30 Model A Coupe, resto... rumble seat, fresh laquer and added juice brakes.

He p***ed away many years ago, but i still keep an eye out for it. No idea when/where/to who it was sold, but I still remember low speed laps around the neighborhood riding in the rumble.

    Sure hope nobody ratted it.

'51 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe. An old custom with extended rear fenders, '55 chevy tailights, '56 Buick lenses. Hood and trunk shaved, door handles and side trim shaved, frenched headlights, cut down '53 chevy grille surround and '55 Desoto grill in the trunk. 350/350 turbo. Sold it at Pate Swap meet in '83. It went to Houston and I have not heard of it since.

I had a friend that was a cop. He knew that I was a straight shooter so he ran the vin# for me and gave me an address for the present owner. The phone was unlisted so I wrote him a letter. He did rely with pictures. I don't think they are supposed to do that but he helped me out. If the car is now out of state it probably won't come up.

Not actively searching, but there are a couple I'd like back.

And there are a couple that I know are gone ( Wore out, parted out, etc...), that I'd like to find a similar one.

Maybe some of them will happen, and maybe some of them won't...

I'm not sure if this has been posted, but came I across this on CAL DMV website about finding the history of a vehicle. If you have the VIN number it will at least give you the state and county of where the vehicle is. It does cost a couple of dollars for the report.

1960 F100 with a Plymouth 383. I sold it back in 99, to a guy in Denton, TX. It was a swb custom cab, two tone black and white.
My step dad used it to pull his Anglia back in the late 60's early 70's. When the motor gave out they swapped it out for a 383 out of a new 1969 Roadrunner that had been wrecked. Wish I could find it.

I would like my old heavily optioned 73 Hurst/Olds back, in the shape it was, it was v****ized and stripped while I was over in Panama for uncle sam. That car was my first that I put a lot of miles on after rebuilding and giving me confidence in my abilites.
The other would be this old model A pickup with lots of hot rod touches, reversed buick/ford wheels, hurst mount, etc... I sold it before I knew what I had.

In the early 90's, I traded this one for an old Suzuki 750, to a guy near Springfield, OH. Last I heard, it was sitting behind his house sunk to the rockers. Oh well young, and dumb.

  23. Wish I knew where my dad's '70 Gran Prix went. 400, 4-speed manual trans, no power accessories, no vinyl top, a real oddball. He had it painted a Corvair light yellow for some reason. Saw it once after the car flipper he sold it to sold it to someone else. Might have something with the VIN on it here if I poke around.

He is probably mad or frustrated at himself for not finishing it. Treat him gentle, maybe you'll get it back.

No, it was a four door, I would have kept a 2 door! [IMG]. Very clean, sold the body after I pulled the drivetrain. I swapped a 1966 Mustang 4 lug rearend into because I needed the 8 3/4 for the Business Coupe you can see in the backyard...

    Pete,

I am going to ***ume you were talking to me. Thanks for any help you can offer. I have attached a couple old photos of the coupe. These were taken in the mid-60's but the car looked the same when I sold it. It was in dark gray primer.
