    Why? Are we interrupting your bingo time? Wait, I know, you can't follow Matlock with that noise to distract you.

    While I understand that some of these folks can behave in an obnoxious manner, making a blanket statement like yours just sounds stupid.

    Only 3 people from UT are on this thread, and every single complaint comment is from people that won't even be affected by this bill.....

    It is absolutely amazing that with the economy in the toilet politicians are still finding ways to crush even more jobs. I guess everybody in the aftermarket exhaust business can just find a new line of work.

    Many times what starts in one state seems to eventually affect others. I don't think anyone is wrong to comment on stupid legislation that affects our hobby, regardless of whether anyone else on here likes it or not.

    Yep, I googled it and that's what came up. If the legislatures had any ****in' brains a Bill Number would stand on it's own, no need to recycle numbers every ****in' year. Moot point, the legislation is still ********.

    I'll drink to that!

    If it ain't loud it ain't a hot rod.

    In my entire 73 years I have never bought an OEM muffler or tailpipe, and don't need any instructions from some nimrod ligislation on how to put 'em on.

    Screw the likes of Pricilla what's'er-name and the horses they rode in on.................. She's got help over here in Colorado from idiots like Buffie Mc, etc. Neither of my jalopies have a muffler and the pipes're going to stay straight until I'm pushin' up daisies. :D

    So what you are saying is that SEMA shouldn't even have posted this?
    What effects one state is sure to effect every one of us sooner or later.

    For Senator Pricilla to introduce legislation that supports OEM, it's obvious to me that she's in the pocket of the New Car lobby. Maybe her daddy has a couple of Dealerships. We have one of those in the statehouse, Spradley is her name, here in Colorado.

    The way to beat her is by used car people and small repair shops in Utah to get together and grease her palm.

    And all of this coming from the legislature in the state that has the oldest and greatest events of all time for automotive performance in the world - the Bonneville Salt Flats.

    There is nothing to gain for the public in enacting this law, just more regulation and the heavy hand of its enforcement. Do we really need this to enforce an obnoxiously loud car or bike? I doubt it and there are laws already on the books to address this (and loud stereos).

    I urge everyone on the HAMB to join the SEMA Action Network (SAN) immediately and do your part to keep America free from more stupid laws.

    Those of us from outside Utah might email those lawmakers and tell them our thousands of tourist dollars that we spend in their state every year might go elsewhere if this law is enacted.

    And as for you sir, rgaller - I think you might need to rethink why you are here on the "Hokey *** Message Board ~ "Spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and customs to hoodlums world wide..."
    with a post like this one made by you last week "While I agree with you that it is not fact, there is no denying that the younger generation (myself included) is more interested in being able to tune cars with computers than dealing with carburetors and points."

    So, where are all the Utah bashers? California gets the **** kicked out of it on here every time something like this pops up in that state. Just goes to show this kinda stuff can pop up anywhere! Sound like its old news anyway, still got to keep an eye out for this kind of stuff.

    This is why we all should be concerned by laws that infringe on our freedoms and just plain common sense......................

    First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;
    Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
    Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
    Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.

    "First they came ..." is attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the inactivity of German intellectuals following the Nazi rise to power and the purging of their chosen targets, group after group. In Niemöller's first utterance of it, in a January 6, 1946 speech before representatives of the Confessing Church in Frankfurt.

    Be careful driving thru Utah They are on a big kick to find drug runners. They try to find anything they can to pull you over. My son got stopped for license plate lite out. Asked if they could search the car. He said ok there is nothing to hide. They poked holes in the cushions, headliner sun visor. Nothing there but they don’t have to repair the damage they do. There is a cl*** action suit against the highway patrol for unreasonable profiling search and seizure.

    WTF?? That's just plain sick! Don't they have any drug dogs? To damage your property with no recourse makes what I said in my last post even more important. I think I would refuse all search requests and make them go through getting a search warrant.

    First let me say that I hope that bill gets defeated. No one likes to live being told what they can do with their car. As mentioned, it sounds like this state rep is just bored or pissed at the neighbor's kid.

    I will also say there is a big difference between p***ing a law and enforcing it. This law (or something similar) is already on the books here in FL. But I've only seen this enforced against Hondas with fart cans. I'm not really worried about this law anyways. Why?

    I have a Studebaker. The company is out of business and good luck trying to get a spec.

    Studebaker used a cast iron header in '64 on their R3 engine.

    Studebaker offered gl*** pack mufflers as an option on the Avanti. There are part numbers for them. If I was really concerned, I could get Cherry Bombs in a natural aluminum color instead of red.

    Emailing these senators is going to do a whole lot of nothing. It would be best to find their personal phone numbers and har*** them when they're trying to spend time with their family.

    And as for it being okay that "fart can Honda's" would get enforced over your 70 year old hot rod, that's not okay.

    The law must be applied equally, without prejudice against one specific type of vehicle. That means all motorcycles, not just a Harley. Imports, hot rods, late model pickups with the exhaust cut off behind the manifolds.

    That's the whole importance of joining SEMA. The legislation they try to introduce applies to customized cars. Usually meeting an age requirement. This means not to worry about the Honda or the stupid high school kid with a rusty Chevy. Standard muffler laws will catch up to them, if the law enforcement care to enforce such trivial matters.

    Mac, it's the same ones who pipe in with stupid **** every time a topic comes up because all they have to say is stupid **** as always.

    Every state in the US has a law on the books pertaining to the requirement of a muffler or mufflers on motor vehicles that are driven on public roads. Some states or some local areas choose to or not to enforce those laws to one degree or another.

    It would do well for you and other motor vehicle enthusiasts of all types on Utah to mount an email and letter writing campaign and notify any and all local shops that sell performance exhaust to jump on the band wagon as this is their bread and ****er.

    I don't see how it makes replacing exhaust components more difficult. The bill clearly states that the aftermarket muffler must meet the same specifications as the OEM unit. That seems reasonable to me.

    Are you serious? Smells like a dirty hippy comment to me.

    Every one here should get on board. This **** affects every one sooner or later.

    I think the main reason for this kind of legislation is for the "tuner cars" around town. Its bad around the Slat Lake Valley and surrounding countys. Many of the laws writen for hot rods here in Utah are different than the normal daily driven cars and could possibly have no affect but you never know. All they have to do is start with one simple law and just keep moving along and making little changes till it affects every person int he country. <!-- / message -->

    I was told that a bill like this was p***ed in Green Bay wI. because of the Harleys and their straight pipes, not the old cars with gl*** packs. Sorry HD boys

    There are very few replacement exhaust systems that meet OE specs. Db output is seldom the same, muffler construction is seldom the same. Technically the pipes should be welded to the muffler in most cases, pipe hangers are different. This can turn into a real can of worms if someone wants be an ***hole.

    Hey dumb-***es.... are you so buried in your PBR can velocity stacks that you don't recognize the words "SEMA Action Network" when you read it?!

    Why don't you click on the poster's profile, and then do a quick Google search to see what SEMA is. Not just Big Mac... everyone that's questioning why he cares because he doesn't live in Utah, where he's getting his information, etc. etc.

  27. If it gets out of comitee, I'd be surprised. It only takes one informed person to stand up and show how stupid a stupid bill is for it to be shot down. I know this because I've written stupid bills before. No, really, I lobbied for student rights in Tech School and found many of the Represen***ves to be reasonable and tolerably inteligent enough to know when something isn't workable. Somebody just has to go and explain why this bill doesn't work.

    I don't live anywhere near Utah, so I don't have a dog in the fight, but if you don't like it...do something about it! You can make a difference.

    I understand that what gets p***es in one state can eventually spread. It was the idiot that said "all Harley's with loud pipes should go straight to the crusher" that I was directing my comments to. Anyone that jumps on here and starts spouting comments like that is in the wrong place. Period. That at***ude will do nothing but hurt hotrods in the long run.

    My second comment was simply stating a fact. I was surprised at so much interest in this thread, yet very few comments from the Utah folks. That's all.

    If you read the entire thread, I did take action and email every one of those senators. I got a response very quickly. They are making some changes to this bill to make it more reasonable. It's targeted mainly toward exhaust that does nothing but make noise. At least thats what their trying to do. :rolleyes:

    I also e-mailed all the Senators, they may say they are targeting loud pipes but I'm sure there is already a decibel bill on the books I don't know why they are creating a new law.

    I just read through the "changes" they're going to implement. There is still a section that outlaws "exhaust cutouts or any mechanism that byp***es a muffler." It sounds like it's trying to target diesel's, but it applies to all vehicles. Not good. Need more emails going to the senators....

    If you haven't read this bill yet, please do so and voice your concerns.
