Picked up a '36 Ford 4 door this last weekend and started the clean out. Inside, in pieces I found what appears to be an exhaust mounted heater boxes, ducking, aluminum defroster/heater deflector and heater controls. Is this a very popular item that is used by anyone today? Can you tell by the pics if it looks complete or is there something missing? Never seen one! Thanks
Looks pretty complete to me.These exhaust heaters were used on Fords as factory accessories from about 1936-1940. The hot water heaters came into Ford at about 1940 when both were offered. The exhaust heater system was discontinued in 1940 and hot water heaters became the factory accessory after that. Failure of the heat exhanger units allowing CO to enter the cabin was the bugaboo of these systems. Most are found off the cars since they were a definite safety hazard after a heat exhanger failure.
Thanks pasadenahotrod for the reply, it was so complete and informative that know one else needed to respond! Can you tell me what the correct name is for this heater, I will be listing it and don't want to look stupid! Thanks
I'm not sure if it's the same model, but there's an NOS one on ebay right now, just search for 1936 Ford Heater. I think the listing mentions who made it.
