Working on a 69 Dart,I am almost ready to do a rear end swap.Going from 7 1/4 to the 8 3/4.So now is the time to think about my rear leaf springs. The car sits very leavel now but to low for me.Will adding an extra leaf give me more lift.Idealy I would like to get at least an inch lift or inch and a half .What are your thought on this low rider.
adding leafs will add height in the way of leaf thickness, and add stiffness to the ride, but wont raise it anymore than that.
Yes, rearching would do it. Are you doing the "Super Stock" style spring with the extended second leaf?
No SS springs for me,this is a street car. From what I have heard thoes springs do not sit leavel. Why do you ask jaybee
Our '63 is sitting on MoPar SuperStock springs. They ride nice. I have over-arched leafs on my '68, it doesn't ride as nice. I would look deeper into the MoPar leafs. This pic is our '63 on SuperStocks.
Psst...hey Don...from one A-body Mopar guy to another, keep it down here, the HAMB police hate any talk about post-66 rides!
Maybe so..........but this TRI YEAR PONTIAC girl just learned something new from your not so HAMB friendly car. Sounds like I need to have my leaf springs re-arched......which sure beats the price of brand new ones! Gah I HATE leaf springs, give me a 58 Chevy ANYDAY.
my spring mechanic says a rearched spring will eventually return to its earlier postion unless u install a new leaf under the main leaf, they did mine for 85.00 cant beat that. EMCH SPRING youngstown ohio they do know there stuff
Summit Racing part # exp-13120 for 35 bucks. I have used these about 20 or 30 times on Mopars, it will lift you 2-3 inches and take you about 1-2 hours to put on. even if your slow. pro comp part # 13120. let me know how you like them, all iv,e told think there great.
Did a '64 Valiant 2dr - took two used mopar main leafs and cut them so that they just fit beneath the main leafs (one per side). They should have a slight even curve to them. It does firm up the ride a bit but not to the point of being objectionable, and improves handling and steering response.
Don run the SS springs . They work fine on the street. No big deal. That is what is in my white car . Don
I've used Mopar S/S springs on the street since the mid sixties, I've never had a set that didn't make the car sit straight, they do raise the back a bit, and I prefer a firm ride of the soggy mushy ride I've experienced in just about every GM car I've ever rode in. I think you'd like Mopar S/S springs.
Thanks Guys,Hey Big D your car does sit up about were i like.Still not sure witch way to go new or rearck the springs.25 years ago it was the thing to jack it up now the low rider is in.I do need to get more lift back there,so I can raise the front some to give me more clearance my headers hang down low.
