Pondering flipping the front axle over the spring on my '59 F100 and noticed that my tie rod definitely would hit the springs. I can see that a dropped axle would raise the tie rod to clear. But some of you claim to have just flipped the stock axle. What'd you do about the tie rod? Modify the steering arms? Or are there differences in steering arms on these trucks?
on a dropped 40's ford cars you have to heat and bend the steering arms . on my Model t speedster I swaped the bolt on arms left to right and still have to put in a bow. Ed archer drove his across the country with a smile bent tie rod.
Closest info I could find was this thread. Supposedly not a dropped axle: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=398754&highlight=f100+drop&showall=1 If you look in this picture, the tie rod is higher than the bottom of the axle and clears the spring: Another angle of it above the springs: Attached are stock '59 pics. See tie rod hanging down? Flipped the axle would run the tie rod right into the spring pack. What am I missing here? Are the '61-64's different?
