Hi Z. You like hot rods without a rake? I kinda like 'em too. You should take a look at the thread "1940s period correct hot rods". Quite a few there I'm sure. I've got pics of some I can post. Give me a few minutes. - Rick

Just about anything late forties, 50's early 60's will predate the extreme rubber rake we find so popular today. As such a return to to this build style can only enhance the traditional side of the hobby/obsession.

OK, here's a few. It's hard to tell if some really have the same size front to rear, without a straight profile shot. I may be mistaken on a couple, but they all have no rake, or very little.

Yeah...isn't that T cool, guys? You've got good taste, and you're in good company as far as thinkin' it's cool. I don't have one lick of info on it. All I know, is that our esteemed founder, Ryan posted it a while back, and thought it was the cat's ***. I have to agree with him. I seem to remember him saying that it has a "sinister" quality about it. No kiddin'! An early sinitster quality! LOL. You might send him a PM, and ask him what he knows. - Rick

Portland car. I just saw it driving a couple days ago. Can't remember the builders name, but he's a super nice guy and very talented. Great car...

I'll bet Grandpa was real happy he ran the water heater exhaust out the side of his graduation present.

    Those wheels are killer.

Nice truck, fleetside66! I really love this place when nobody's bein' a dink, and guys are pitchin' in and contributing! All doctorZ (the OP) wanted was a few pics of some cars with no rubber rake, and the thread just takes off with cool stuff. Hahahaha! A couple of guys ask for info on the T, and BAM...Jay has it. doctorZ is offline now, but wait 'til he checks the thread tomorrow, and sees what he started! LOL.

Wow! Thanks again Jay! The videos are awesome. Maaaan...we're not talkin' about a '50s or even a '40s era build. That's a '30s style hot rod...I mean gow-job...I mean strip-down...I mean fliver! LOL.

Actually,"Big n Littles" were a very popular trend all through the fifties and are a big part of the cl***ic 50's look ! There are many examples in the Andy Southerd book Hot Rods of the 50's that show the"rubber rake" style and Southerd himself describes the T roadster pickup he built in 1955 as having 8.20 15's on the rear and 560's on the front! Thats a difference in diameter of 4 to 5 inches ,depending on brand, between the front and rear tires! Also, there are pictures of the Joe Nitti roadster with 1950 plates on it wearing big and little whitewalls. That car is an icon a**** deuce roadster fans and certainly qualifies as being "traditional".
    Just my 2 cents,Bob

Not exactly a rod or a Kustom really. Equal sized rubber on nice wheels and dropped 2.5" or 3".[IMG]

True for the '50s, but when you're talkin' "early" around here, that can mean '40s or even '30s. And the further back you go, the less predominant "big and littles" are...not toatally absent, but certainly less of it.

No rubber rake = Custom, or just "a nice old car"
    or
No rubber rake = Gow Job or "sleeper" ≠ Hot Rod

    Hot Rod = rubber rake

then we'll agree to disagree! there were plenty of early rods with no rake, though.
