shorten tranny for dragster??

    I been keeping up with all the build threads on the FEDs , and have come acrossed this pic of a shorten Turbo 350. i also seen a c4. So how do u do this and can u shorten standards to? Is this a kit or alot of machining?

    Looks like a 4 wheel drive ****** with a plate made for the end.Kits for powerglides are common.

    My 4X4 ****** (turbo 400) out of the Cherokee looks "similiar" to that. The rear thats short like that one would be where the TRANSFER CASE bolts too. At least on mine, not positive thats whats happening with that one but sure looks like it...

    i didnt think about 4x4s i got a buddy with some 4x4 parts . might have to swing by his place this week.

    It appears to be a standard case with out the tailshaft housing. No big deal to that. What is required is to shorten the output shaft, spline it for the yoke and provide some sort of bushing or bearing and seal in the flat 'cap' bolted onto the case flange.

    Or buy a 4 wheel drive version of same ****** and all that works is done for you
