Iv`e just bled the all new brakes on my 56 Caddy, but still have no pedal. Now is this becose there is no va***e to the Bendix Treadle Vac power brake unit ( as the motors out ). Should I be able to get some sort of pedal, with no va***e. or is the Treadle Vac up the ****ter !! Bled the treadle vac first, at it`s own bleed niple, then moved to the 4 wheel cylinders. any thoughts out there, thanks, Martin.
I don't think you're going to get any pedal without the vacuum...personally, I'd toss the whole thing and go with a 8 inch booster and Corvette master...mount it to your firewall or under the floor... Have you checked out the brake system I put on my '55 Caddy...??? If not, here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329070&highlight=the+best+55+caddy+build Check with McVey's in Merriam, Kansas, I think they have new treadle vacs or rebuild kits...or USA parts in Virginia... IMHO, those treadle vacs were the worst things Caddy put on their cars...!!! R-
Had`nt adjusted the fronts up. did that, and Bingo, half decent pedal. with the va***e on it, I recon she`ll be sweet.
Just redid mine on my 59 olds. Was a ***** finding someone who even knew what it was let-alone rebuild it! Bled it, got pedal. If yours sat for several years, I'd ***ume the cylinder walls are rusted/pitted. Hope this helps. OH, you didn't push the rod in the whole way when you were bench bleeding it did ya?!?!?!?!?!? That will fuk it up.
