If you are using Quatz halogen bulbs its no problem to run a seperate wire to a single orange bulb shrouded by a small cover to direct indicator light forward. If you are using sealed beam you are probably out of luck. switch to a decent QH bulb. The indicator is almost invisible till in use.

My '40 Plymouth came stock with the turn signal bulb mounted above the headlight bulb, and the headlight bulb had a "window" of clear gl*** on the back side of it for the turn signal bulb to shine through it...I also had a pair of 30's headlight buckets with the same style headlight bulbs in them, but the secondary bulbs were clear and apparently the clear lights were for running lights...kinda neat stuff...no idea if those sealed beam headlight bulbs are still made though...

Remember reading a magazine article probably 20+ years ago and there was a car using the headlight as the blinker, had a wiring diagram with it. Never actually seen anyone do it and not sure if it wouldn't generate a ticket. anyone else remember that or how it was done?

Just get any round Non sealed beam head light ***embly you like and drill a hole somewhere in the reflector and put in a small amber lamp. Wire it to a switch on your column and you should be alright. I've never tried this but sounds like it should work.

Pretty sure that will work, I saw it in a Roadrunner cartoon once.

  9. I'm not sure where the TS's are on your truck, but if they are the ones just sticking out of the fender like lollipops, I can see why you want to change them.

But..what you are looking after may be more trouble and $$ than its worth..

try to find some 50's backups or little round T/s ***emblies off something similar. fit them into the lower grill, front valence, or bottom of fenders. Not sure what the truck looks like again..

Post a pic. A friend has an international in that year range thats going to s**** VERY SOON..if its not already gone.

So, using the stock wiring on my '40 Plymouth cons***utes it automatically being a streetrod? Really? Thanks, I'm glad I avoided that...I better go out of my way to add some turn signals so I don't end up looking like a douche...

  12. Ruiner your my new hero . I saw that post too. i have learned to ignore comments like those. those few 3 people that are claim sooo traditional and hard core, are the ones that never relize that they are following rather than lead in anything never mind hot rodding . ... its funny how their posts are usally 2 words long !

My pops bought these little dealios that attach inside your headlights with an amber bulb, that work pretty good. I don't remember where he got them so I'll have to check and let you know. I remeber them being pretty cheap also. I'll ask him and check back in.

You can drill the reflector & install a generic bulb holder & stick a 1156 amber bulb in it.
    1156's are traditional BTW. ;)
If the amber bulb bothers you when off- you can buy 1156 LED bulbs which glow amber when on, but are clear (and invisible) when off.

why use the headlights? use the park lights! get a double socket and put that in instead of the single one you got now. put a dual bulb in. wire the turn signal to those, and ready.
    cost: about $10
    time: 1 or 2 hours

That's look sweet with some '49 Studebaker headlight bezels with the TS lnse already there.

Since it looks like it has marker lights for turn signals anyway, your options are wide open. However, if you get down to the details on the turn signals in the headlights, be sure to post the info. You think the 'binder signals are ugly? I've got a '47 Ford pickup...................

Now with a pic of car up. You have options. You have marker lights below the headlight which are already 1156 single element (look like trailer markers?). Either wire those as turn signal or change bulb housing to dual element 1157 & you will have both running lights & turn signals.

On my wife's '41 International I used "51 Ford round park lites mounted under the headlites. Looks balanced and worked out good. I have a pic someplace I'll see if I can find it.

Drilling a hole in the reflector as several have said should work. You could go to a salvage yard that specializes in imports. I did a tour in Germany and there were several makes of cars that used this technique. Take a tape measure.

If you go to 1157 bulbs, consider going to 2057 bulbs. Same size physically, at least 3 to 5 times brighter. Available at local parts stores . Cost around 3or 4 bucks a pair.

Im converting my Model A twolight Head lamps to use the small running light lamp as an amber blinker..I know its not the same but, same idea.

I dont think its street roddy..i think its a creative way to get a blinker with out having some ugly ***ed blinker that doesnt look like it belongs..
I call it a simple , clean idea
