Hoping some of the Galaxie owners will be able to help. I'm finishing up a resto that my father started about 10 years ago. Just about there but the routing of the wiring in the engine bay is causing me some confusion.
The motor is a 390 and it's a non a/c car. I believe I've figured out the routing where the wire grouping that has the oil, water temp and hot for the coil go.(across the left side if the intake manifold)
There's two other bundles of wires, one for the horns and lights, and another for the selonoid and starter wires, it looks as if the wiring for the lights runs across the underside of the top of the radiator support held in place with plastic clips, and I'm assuming the starter wires go across the bottom of the support?
I have an old Ford manual but it's not real clear on the routing path the wires take Any help would be greatly appreciated

427 c.i. I have two customer cars in my shop right now, they are both 64 galaxie 500's and the wiring on both of them has the wires routed down along side of the radiator on the drivers side(the voltage reg is mounted there) and going UNDER the radiator along the bottom side of the front support, held in place by the plastic loop clips, then the wires for the lights come up along side the radiator on the passengers side and out through the support to the lights. The rest of the wires(stater, solenoid etc.) go along the support under the battery tray then up to the solenoid etc.

The clips along the TOP of the support hold a rubber flap that seals againt the top tank on the radiator. I'm not a ford guy, but this is how they are run on both of my customers cars...one is an original untouched car so I'm thinking it would be factory routing. Hope this helps.

Check with the car literature people for an assembly manual for your car. They are reprints of the factory manuals and have every clip and screw shown with detailed drawings. I restored a 66 SS396 from multiple baskets and boxes containing 2 different disassembled cars. I couldn't have done it without the manual. It will usually cover the factory options too.

A quick google search pulled this up.

    Thanks Tommy,
I have a factory manual and you are absolutely correct on them being an invaluable tool, unfortunately, if wire routing is in there, I'm not seeing it. I have found the wiring diagrams, I'm not seeing how the wires are routed. 333 Half Evil has me going in the right direction...I'm just coming up with either too many or not enough holes for the factory clips to pop into. I think I may be close after tonight, just coming up a bit short on length on the drivers side headlight wires vs. the clips...I gotta be close though. I sure wish there was a 64 Galaxy that was local to look at as a reference.
    Thanks again.

If you have the shop manual that doesn't have the details that you need. My 56 Ford ELECTRICAL assembly manual shows all of the wiring and it's routing including detail shots of the attaching hardware and connections. There are usually several reprinted manuals available from the literature suppliers for the different year Fords. I don't know if they made one for the 64 but if they list an electrical assembly manual it will take all the guess work out of the routing and clips etc..

Good luck with it and nobody is going to critique your harness if it's not exactly like Ford did it.

I see you are still working on the wiring. I'll try and explain the routing as best I can. I do not have a camera right now as someone decided they needed that and my GPS more than I did so they helped themselves to them. I only have one of the cars still at my shop so I went and took a good look at how the wiring is and hopefully can explain it so you can understand.

There are 4 holes in the bottom of the radiator saddle, two in between the mount pads for the bottom of the radiator and 1 in each of the curves of the saddle. To put clips into these holes you would have to push them down towards the ground, these are NOT for the wiring but for a rubber flap.

There are 4 holes in the edge of the radiator saddle, about 1" down from the opening in which the radiator gets airflow through. To put clips into these holes you would have to push them towards the front of the car, the ARE for the wiring harness.

On the passengers side the wires come around the curve, on the outside of the brace/bracket for the battery tray and split there with the wires for the lights continuing up along side the radiator. There is 1 hole in the brace/bracket, for the battery tray, for a clip for the wiring harness. Then at the top right as the wires get to the top is 1 hole for a clip, then towards the passengers side about 4" further is another hole for a wiring harness clip. Then the wires go out through about a 1" dia. hole, just outside this hole is another hole for a clip for the wiring harness.

If you still cannot figure it out, let me know and I will try and borrow a camera to take you some pics. I hope this helps.
