ok so I have a chevy 305 in my 52 chevy, and Iam running a short waterpump and I have stock manifolds so I cant use the header mounted alt brackets!!I ordered a low mount bracket and that wont work either. so now the only other way to go about this is using a upper mount on the right hand side like it came stock, but now I would have to go back to a long water pump!!! so I was hoping someone could help me find a solution i wanna keep my short water pump but it looks like i have to run the long one pics would help allot thanks!!! here are some pics of the motor to try and give a idea!!
Yepp, damn sure is. Once a week there is a new "alt mount, help me"-thread, but if people just figured my answer out themselves, they wouldn't have to ask! If you can swap an engine, you have the skills to build friggin' alt mounts!
Pretty sure Allen Grove makes one that will work. I use them on my '33. Bolt to waterpump and intake manifold. Top of driver's side mount.
dbradley: would you by any chane have a picture of it?? or a website?? thanks allot for your positive input!!
+1 on Allen Groves. That's what I used. About $70, so if you have the skills you can make 'em or order it from Allen. Mine fit perfect.
I have the same problem. I am going to try a 79 corvette bracket also used on 69-72 trucks. I might have to cut the mount off my right manifold. I could also modify the generator bracket and make that work but I do not want to hang the weight on the manifold. It is a hit and miss learning mission for myself as well. I have found a ton of great info on the HAMB doing searches!! This is probably the best way to go Alan Grove http://www.srbymichael.com/manufacturers/alangrove/agrove_sbcswp.shtml
the Alan Grove one is good, i have used several of them So-Cal make a simple one that bolt to the short water pump and intake bolt , puts the alternator on the p***enger side above the intake. they are about $50....but would be easy to copy. i have a copy of one on my `36 , and the one i bought for a pattern in now on my `29 pickup project Speedway Motors has a similar one , puts in in the same location. it's basically a copy of a mid 70's smog pump mounting bracket. i have one on my `28 Tudor
I can post a pic of mine, but I don't have them here at work. I'll post it up tonight if you're still looking. The So Cal one looks good too.
If there isn't enough space on the side to mount it you can use a smog pump bracket to mount it above the water pump. You will probably have to come up with an idler to keep the right tension on the belt though. I had that setup on the 283 that I had in my truck years ago. It mounts pretty much the same way that the Allen Grove one does.
So I ended up ordering this bracket kit from speedway hopefully this will work out!!! thanks for your help guys!!
that is exactly what I did, ordered the plain one. I was thinking of doin like a stainless paint on those brackets... what do you think?
