I'm a Chevy guy. I admit that. Cheap, easy horsepower has always been more than I could resist. Could never understand why Ford guys spent so much time and money trying to catch me... Anyways, I know very little of the Ford Pinto derived Lima 2.0/2.3/2.5 motor. Now I find myself going down that path with the Wife's Falcon. I picked up a 2000 Ranger this weekend to use as a donor for an OT transplant, but will be leaving the outward appearance as stock as possible, maybe some Cragars or Supremes. She dries the car to work and needs the daily reliability of the EFI/5 spd that this setup provides. My question, was there ever a front sump application on the late model 2.3 motor with the 1 pc rear seal? I need an oil pan to clear the steering on the Falcon and prefer not to spent $400-$500 on a circle track pan.

    Any suggestions?

Worst case, I'll modify the K-member to clear and convert it to rack & pinion. I don't really want to go there...

  2. Scotty, get a hold of fast Ed here on the HAMB, he really knows his way around Ford part books if they ever built one he's the guy to find it .

Good idea, I've wanting to put a 2.3 in my model A. My motor is out of a old turbo thunder chicken (T Bird).
I will be interested in what you find out.

    thanks

Front sump pan was easy to get, I had a hell of a time getting a rear sump for my daughter's Nash. I'll keep my eyes peeled. You want the aluminum pan, right?

Why not cut the pan and add a front sump? Build a new oil pump pick up and call it a day.

It has a cast aluminum pan now. I could go either way. The trick is the late model sealing. One piece gasket, one piece rear seal, etc.

I might if it had a steel pan, but the cast aluminum pan looks like a pain in the ass. It is also not flat on both sides. There is a serious kick-out on one that makes a simple 180 spin of the bottom half impossible.

I could scratch build the whole pan, but they are usually a serious piece of work to get right and make them leak free.

Thanks guys! Still looking for that magic bullet.

1974-1978 Mustang II's, and 1974-1980 Pinto's came with 2.3's with the front sump oil pan, and pickup tube.

Thanks for the link. I know about the early models, but need a late model pan for 1 pc gasket and seal.
