anybody have any pics or links for what to use or built for the front pan hard and install on my 36 ford truck the wish bones are split and the axle is is under the spring on the stock 36 frame and cross member? thanks for the help.....
You don't need to bother with it if you use standard shackles. Panhards and sway bar was added to factory '46-8 because of the 4" shackles that lowered the car and springs had a lot less pre-load. Those frontends were a cluttered up mess. Side sway would screw up your steering if using over leingth shackles(bump steer) My stock '37 frontend works perfectly. If using a traditional (push-pull) steering would affect it even less.
There was a thread sometime ago on here about a fork and a pin mechanizm that did the same thing it was old school stuff and pretty cool.
even a stock front end needs one. you can feel the difference in the turns when you don't have one. i have seen a late '40 ch***is with a factory panhard bar. i use a pete and jakes bar on my 35-48 ch***is. here is a link to it. -danny http://www.peteandjakes.com/parts/3548/35_panhard.htm
Danny, on the link I see the left side attachment to the frame but what does the right side attach to? the wishbone? Thanks.
Found the Fork and Pin thing http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81167&highlight=panhard+fork+bearing
Let's start over. Did you say you have a 36 Ford Pickup that you have mounted a 28-34 front spring on top of the axle using spring perches and split the wishbone thus increasing your pickup's wheelbase by about 3-5 inches? AND, you're asking about using a Panhard rod on this setup? Is your steering still cross-steering as stock 35-48 Fords have or did you change to fore-aft drag link steering like 28-34 Fords have?
yes the wheel base has been stretched and yes it is still cross over steering. the problem i have is when the truck is not moving and you turn the steering wheel you can watch the shakles move back and fourth the steering is pushing the axle to the left and right!
