  1. Del's Barber Shop, on Escondido Blvd. in Escondido. Been in the same place since the 1950's, and currently featured in the Miller Beer commercial on TV

Hmmm... I've owned three sets of clippers in 20 years and cut my hair every other week. Granted, that's not for everyone, I get that. However, I did a quick calculation if hair cuts still cost $12 with a tip, which is what they cost when I got my last hair cut in eight grade (hahaha), I've saved over six thousand dollars! I don't have a screwed up head of hair, either!

  3. Special Ed just PMed me, and he just found a link to an interview with the owner of Del's Barber Shop, the place I was talking about a few posts up. Hopefully, he'll post it here.

When I lived in the Bay Area I drove 362 miles round trip every 4 weeks to get my haircut back home at Viking Barber Shop. It's a 1-man operation with gun magazines, barber pole and wonderful hot-lathered straight-razor shaves. Dwayne has been my barber 40 years since high school. He is so popular he does appointments only, and I didn't want to get my name out of the rotation cause it may take someone dying to get back in.

As an aside, Dwayne was sick for a month recently and I had to go somewhere else until he got well. My wife convinced me to go to her hairdresser who also does male haircuts. The gal was 22 years old and honestly a 10, absolutely gorgeous, and she did a fine job, but there were no gun magazines in the place, and I'm too old to stand that kind of tostesterone rush on a regular basis. I went back to Dwayne as soon as he recovered.

  9. I'm glad I'm not the only one to think so, didn't say it as I didn't want anyone to pout and stamp their feet!! Sometimes I think I'm tuned to Ann Landers.

Theres one here in Tucson that I've been going to for about 8 years. the lady is very cool and a rare talent. Never a bad haircut, allways good conversation and fun. She makes dragons to hang on the wall like you wouldnt believe.
As said before, They are independant buisness folks. Support them or we'll all have 5.99 clippers from H/F and a bowl.

Poli's Barber Shop in Roseville CA

  12. There was this barber shop in Hopkins (Pito's on 9th). Pito was an old Puerto Rican guy. He cut my hair with a straight razor. My Dad recomended him. I never went back. Nice guy, but dull razors are no use. Not so much a hair cut as a hair extraction. OUCH!

The place you visited belonged to Seth (Seth's chop shop in O.B.). He's a very good friend of mine and super traditional hot rodder. I can safely say that he's been doing the traditional barber thing long before anyone else in San Diego. He was also one of the original Lifters CC members when they reformed (Original club formed in the 50's). He ended up starting his own club 'Barons CC/MC'. Go get your haircut there when your here;)

    Barber Shop Trivia:

Do you know what the colors on a barber pole signify?

The blue is for your veins.
The red is for your blood.
The white is for the bandages,
which were frequently used in the early years of barbering as
lots of barbers were also freelance dentists.

You may wonder how I know this. I watched a show last night on local TV
all about the barber shop experience. It brought back memories.
I've cut my own hair for about 20 years. It's petty easy.
