Plan is to have all side glass remade.Front glass cut. I have to re work the vent windows as well as the chrome around the side glass. Some parts will have to be re chromed.
I stopped by every day Fitzee was chopping this , amazing job . I flows so well ...just like a Riviera chopped well . It does not look like it was stepped on ..laying down the rear window makes it flow like it is factory . Now you have lots of expierence on the 2 door you can chop my 4 door ...I have to get out in the garage to find some more secret stash to trade haha . Fitzee has inspired me to get a car on the road ...I havent had anthing on the go in years . He is very talented .
Wow nice job on a tough chop ! I want to wack the wifes 64 Laurention more door but shes threatened to kill me if I do. Try and keep us updated on the build, I would love to follow this one.
A few updates.Car is now gone to have the engine installed and the front put back on it,then it will be coming back to get glass and Paint. Here it a few picture of the inner filler panels.A few of it filled and primed as well as just before it was loaded on the trailer.
I missed seeing it by a half hour Friday as it just left on the flatbed. Now that I see the pictures I just have to say that isn't just chopped. It's FIXED. Thats what it SHOULD have looked like when Cadillac built it. Awesome job Fitzee. Oh! BTW...next time you wash a car outside use a little less "SUDS" will ya!?!? You got mountains of foam everwhere!
SMART man! I have seen guys out there chopping tops and not properly welding the innerstructure .Especially the A and B pillers. It also helps to make a sleeve to insert inside of the post and plug weld above the cut and below the cut.In a bad crash the innerstructure may be what keeps the ocupents on this side of the dirt.Horrable accidents do happen ,even if its not your fault.
Nice! I'm going to steal some of your ideas when I cut the top of my '59 T'Bird, only I'm going to reverse them! The 'C' pillar is, in my opinion, to thick on the 'Bird, and will look even bulkier chopped (it's coming down 2 1/2"). I'm going to leave the base the same length, cut the glass frame out and lean it forward about 3 inches. I think it'll work out perfectly. Really nice photos of the job. My shop is so dark and gloomy, the photos look like it's being done in a cave! Brian
Wow, you really nailed it. I don't normally like chopped '60s cars because they usually come out of the crate pretty sleek, but the Coupe DeVille needs exactly the treatment you just gave that one. Excellent work, I cannot look at it and say there is anything I would change to make it better. Can't wait to see this one fleshed out with glass and paint. Black is obvious, but some of those Firemist colors were really pretty. What is the plan on color??
Great work! I hope to see it up again after paint. I always did wonder what my 62 caddy moredoor would look like with a haircut. If ya did a 4 door i bet it wouldn't be too hard to suicide the rear doors, like the older lincolns. Would look sick!
Chris is looking to have it on the road this summer and has a lot to do.We figure for this year it will shot in satin black.I notice some issues where the car was in primer for a number of years and it will need to be stripped so for this year, satin black it will be.
There is talks of air ride but he wants to get this on the road first,he has plans for taken it to a show this year,so we will be working on getting it road worthy first. For this year were thinking of cutting the springs.
A update. The car came back Monday.I blocked it out and hit it with some satin black.Tring Imron satin for the first time. Not as nice as my poor man mix but will be much easy to work with when he wants to put a custom coat of paint on.Satin for now so we can get it mobile.
Real nice, the chop is just enough to make the Caddy look sleek. I like the black, do you know what the final color will be?
Satin black for now.Maybe in a few years when everything else is done we might look at something wild. Still lots to do to get it on the road, then he will be working on replacing some of the chrome as well as interior. This will be a on going project
Lookin great Fitzee will it be in Moncton this July? We gotta do a Hamb meet & greet if you guys can make it down!
