Part of the reason I haven't been working on my Ford is that I've built a website for a local hot rod shop here in town. It's Horvath Hot Rods in Spanish Fork UT. Check out the site and let me know what you all think. I built it for him on trade, and can do a little graphic work, along with website construction, and SEO (internet marketing) if any of you hambers are interested. Mostly I'm just proud of the site and want to show it off to some dudes who might appreciate it. Thanks for the look. The Dawg http://horvathhotrods.com/index.html
I agree....a little hard to read. Some of the text overlaps some of the images(not sure if it's supposed to), and the black text on the darkish brown is a bit hard to read. Otherwise it looks awesome!!!
Nicely done! LOVE the graphics too! As a former webmaster, I would have the pics enlarge to either a new window or a popup so the user doesnt have to use the "back" button. Darken the text at the bottom for more contrast so the viewer can see contact info more easilly. Ilove the look and vintage feel of it.
I'm on a Mac on Firefox and everything looks like it's in the right place. I like the layered look and changing the collectable stuff on the left with every new link is fun to check out. You might want to reconsider the link and headings typography design. Not enough contrast with the background colors and edges look soft like they've been through too many photoshop layers. The downside to adding your layered background to every link is that during each load time (five or six seconds) the fuzzy edged link names and gray body copy typography are unreadable and looks like a mistake until the graphics come up. Edges of the polaroids on airbrushing page looked overworked and have ragged edges. Also check your typography throughout - it's a bit close on airbrushing page by single letter a nearly touching your photos. I agree with the earlier statement that your photos coming up in a separate window. It would be cleaner to stay within the site somehow. Overall nice look, though
Yo Dude, Looks GOOD! Safari on a MAC. Like BOMONSTER said. The headline font is hard to read. Maybe darker and when each page loads you see the edges. WTF. Looks good dude. Great job. Slim
I'm no expert on web design but it looks OK to me. Colors seem kinda Western which is fine for a Utah shop. [rant] You hit one of my pet peeves though, saying "We specialize in all kinds of hot rods." That sounds lame. It's like the auto repair shops that say "We specialize in all makes and models." Guess what? That means you don't specialize in anything. It's already a Hot Rod shop so they know you build Hot Rods. If you don't have a specialty, then don't say you do. [/rant]
I need to write some javascript so that it either loads a different CSS file with older browsers, or tell the users to upgrade to a new internet browser. Thanks for the feedback.
Don't most people hate pop ups? I can easily target those images to a new tab/window. But then when you close the window you have to go fishing back to the tab/window that I just forced you to leave.
Looks good on Firefox with javascript turned off (noscript plugin). This is a Good Thing! But perhaps it won't work for everyone because you are using pixels, not percentage, for your tables and frames? Some people are reporting problems... Try using percentage instead of pixels, and then resize your monitor to as low as 800 x 600 (or even 640 x 480) to test.
Looks good. User initiated image popups are hardly annoying. A nicer solution would be the Lightbox-option, as can also be seen on this forum when clicking an attached image. Tell the people with the ancient 'lesser' browsers to pound salt, get their shit together and upgrade to a 2010 webbrowser. Mickeysoft has been screwing up the internet long enough now with their crap... The background takes a bit too long to load imo. You got to save it from photoshop with the 'Save for Web'-menu option. With a 60% JPEG quality you can shave off around 200kb of the background picture, which would make it load a bit faster. I also agree the text and menu's could use a bit more contrast by darkening the text.
Two thumbs up from me, I just redid my business website and the hardest part is coming up with an idea on how you want it to look. Great job on the design, I like it.
Nice site!!!!!!!! I love old signs and was wondering where you found all the neat signs. When I go over to the local Cracker Barrell for lunch half the reason I go is just to look at the old signs and also to get a good burger and fries. There is really something nostalgic about old signs and lettering styles that is just so cool. Keep up the good work. Jimbo
You have to scower the internet for pics. There are some great sites like stock xchgn (http://www.sxc.hu/) that you can sign up for and find some really cool crap. Thanks for the good vibes duders.
Under the gallery, there is an acid trip love van. my 63 galaxie was painted the same way with the same colors!!!! I wish I never would have stipped that paint and would have taken some pictures!!!!!
I like it,as a customer it was easy to read, find what you want, how to get in touch,a map and phone# and work hrs. They dont need to spend the day reading, they need to get there and give ya some bussiness.JOB DONE......2 thumbs up...............YG
ahhhhhhhh gotta love javascript and html coding... when you write it you get all those emotions in that order. lol
It really has been fun. I've built several webpages, and each one I complete has a little bit of a different challenge. But, I did get the javascript up. So, she's done and done. Thanks Hambers.
Nice looking site man! I think you just need to play with the contrast of text colours on the background as its starting to blend in. But otherwise a great job! Try this for a solution to the above problem: http://jquery.com/demo/thickbox/
