I went with the 4wd s-10 rear end... it worked out just fine no problems really just added a 4" block to the rear....

as of right now the project is at a halt..... the garage I was gonna use to work on it isnt ready yet so as of right now its just sitting in my 1 1/2 car garage, so that means I have no room to work on it..... but it will be ready to roll this coming sping!!!

We just did the V-8, mild build 350/ beefed up Powerglide auto trans with a 2500 stall converter/56 posi rear with 4.88 gears to our 51 Business Coupe. Your car is a Deluxe Model, 2 door SEDAN; a Business Coupe does'nt have a rear seat, only a platform for suitcases and such, and the rear quarter windows don't roll up/down. You've used the same C.E. engine mounts, and LT1 exhaust manifolds we used, they fit well and look good! For the trans crossmember/mount we used a Dodge Dart crossmember, and modified it to make a drop out crossmember. Ours is fighting gravity, it's lifted all around. It's a car I bought off a HAMBER here on the cl***ifieds, had trucked up here to Washington from Texas, and it's becoming my nephews car; his dad had a 49 Coupe, 327, 4-speed, Pont rear, when he was in high school, so this car is sort of a recreation. There are photos of it over on ChevyTalk.Org under my screen name, 56sedandelivery, in the 49-54 forum. You're doing good, I actually wanted a Sedan, but wound up with the Business Coupe. I hate the stock color too, but it seems to work on this car for some reason. I'll eventually paint mine, but its staying green for 2010....

Nice, I'm going to build a 53 4 door which will be my first time project. It's great to get ideas from others who are doing the same thing. I have to wait until spring to pull it out of the field and see how many dead things are in it.

amigo, TRUST ME, the thing i regret most is not leaving the car the stock color. spend some time and buff out the paint, and just roll it for a little while. TRUST ME (YET AGAIN) it will grow on you. that is one solid ride man, you got one hell of a nice start on your project

  13. Just one thing to keep in mind with your 4" blocks. Take a look at the u-bolt lengths and make sure they aren't going to be the first thing in contact with the ground if you blow a tire. The bottom of the bolts need to be above the bottom on your rim. Otherwise BAAAAADDDDD things can happen if you get a flat at speed.

    Just my $0.02 worth.

As much as I try to picture the car in the stock color I really cant make my self like it!!!! anyways there is some minor body work that is gonna be done so the car will be painted after that........

As for the u bolts all that has been covered the u bolts sit up high enough!! but thanks for sharing your 0.02 cents!!

What type of motor mounts did you use.? I am about to put a small block chevy in my 49 and I like your setup. Gold gives it a nice touch.

I used ch***is engineering motor mounts, they are bolt in but i welded them in. And for the trans mount I made my own its bolted in with two bolts so that if I have to pull my trans out its easy.

did you weld the motor mounts in or was it a bolt on type thing? I have a '53 pontiac that I'm trying to figure out how to slap a v8 in it without a subframe swap.
