So, next weekend is the Atlantic City Cl***ic Car Show and Auction. I've got friends who will give me one of their p***es-buy your car care stuff from Coby and Amy-if I go down. It's about a 5 hour drive. Anybody been there in the past? Anyone going on Saturday?
I went to all the ones in the beginning. Have been on and off for the last 10 years, since I've been going to Detroit's Autorama, as they are on the same weekend often. What to say? well, to be honest.....I usually tell people it ****s. But it's something to do with "cars" in the middle of winter, so it keeps the enthusiasm going. Lots of cars for auction, that's the main focus. Many are either older restorations (most NOT done very well), some nice original cars, and some good resto's. A few hot rod/custom cars, more muscle cars. The swap meet is pretty lame. Hardly any car parts vendors, lots of cell phones, T shirts, toys, Chinese tools, and reps from chrome platers, 4 post lifts, trailers, and pole barn sellers. I go now cause the GF likes the casinos, and you can get on OK brew across the street at Tun Tavern, and REAL good beers right under the Tropiocana, in Firewaters (I'll be there Friday night, if anyone else is in town!, Maybe Sat. night, as well) The car stuff comes second, in this case. I am guessing that there should be some great buys here this weekend, though, and I'm meeting with a couple different guys to look over anything they might want to purchase. Between the normally lower AC prices for cars, and the lousy economy, there should be some GREAT bargains there, if you're looking for a car.
Thanks. That is kind of what i figured. I am not really looking for another project, more a chance to get out of town and see some cars. I'm still thinking of going down to visit my dad who just turned 87 and, well, who knows if it doesn't snow.
We quit going a few years ago. It used to be fun in the middle of winter. It costs too much for me with the price of gas and all the rest. There were no real car parts vendors the last time I went. I don't ever remember seeing a car sell there but I never spent much time watching the auction.
A busload (or two) of us would ride up,watching movies on the way and get free vouchers for gambling. $25 per person with the voucher worth $20.Factor the time with friends and it was a win/win,unless you gambled? Anyone remember the chimpanzee that you could have your photo taken with on the second floor of the convention center? He really liked the ladies...a lot. The cars weren't too bad.It was a fun day out in the midst of winter.
I live 10 minutes away from Atlantic City and I wouldn't go to this alleged *Cl***ic Car Show* on a free ticket........agree completely with Chopolds......this new auction company that took over about 15-or more years ago raised the swap space prices in order to attract a *higher level* of vendor.........well, I call ********........they drove out all of the *real vendors* who came to sell real car parts.......it used to be a really good thing to do in the middle of Winter, but now it just ****s.......and they charge $20 just to get in the door...........****, the LA Roadsters only charge $12 to get into one of the country's greatest hot rod shows...........if you've got Cabin Fever really bad then go ahead and kill a day...but don't expect anything but a street rod and muscle car auction with almost no swap spaces.....the ones that are there sell sungl***es, t-shirts, stickers, SBC chrome dressup stuff, puppets, and Chinese tools....Gag!..... my advice.......park offshore at one of the train stations like Egg Harbor City or Absecon and take the train that will drop you right inside the Convention Center.......it's a cheap ticket to ride the train and you won't have to fight traffic and parking fees.........I'm just sayin' CB
Hey, watch it Brucie! I'm setting up in the vendor area with some of my junk!! It probably is not the best if you are looking for swap meet parts, but they get 50,000 people through the place and my buddy does great selling the same mix of car stuff and antique weird **** I deal in. We'll give it a shot.
It's a shame that the AC show went down hill- we used to go every year in the 70's-80's. The antique show upstairs was great too. Bruce- I may be in Philly in June to help my folks out with some housework- would love to hook up if I get some free time.
I hope you did well Larry......you must be one of those *higher quality vendors* they talk about..........Al's pics of some of your stuff looked great.........and, you're right......there is a ton of traffic through there, just not the right kind of stuff there for me........ 50,000 people @ $20 a head? Sheesh! Maybe I'm the one who's out of touch!! CB
Mac........it would surely be fun to meet and greet.......I think I am going to be very busy in June as my older daughter's wedding is at the end of the month.......I can't even make my annual trek to the LA Roadster Show this year! Aaaagghhh! But, if you are up here, give me a yell......maybe you'll hit me on the right day! CB
I have never made it there......but I would be interested if I am available on the day you get a reservation.....count me in (possibly).... thanks for the invite..... CB
