I have a 235 in my truck, and the damn front balancer is loose, I can move it about quatewr inch back and forth. I supose just the quater round key is holding it, and that will surly shorten its life. So, I tried going through the crank hole with a piece of pipe, and try'ed to sledge hammer it back on with no luck. WTF! Surly I don't have to the radiator and grill to fix this, or mayby, so. Any in puts kool. Thank's
My understanding is that the Chevy I6 balancers dont like being over revved. I would replace it before it takes out your radiator for you!
if the damper hub is loose on the crankshaft, you probably need a new crankshaft and damper. If the outer part of the damper is loose on the hub, you just need a damper, and you'd be better off pulling the radiator and whatever else is in the way to work on it.
Your spelling makes it very hard to understand what's really going on. But, if you can move it front to back.....it's the thrust on the main bearing that's worn, an NOT the balancer being loose. But, this is a guess from what I can read of your description
Is the balancer tight on the crank? When you grab it does it wobble side to side,or is it tight on the crank but moves back and forth,in and out no side wobble?
Yes my spelling is horible, I'm not dwelling on that rite know. The hole thing is loose on the end of the crank, and yes not to brite, but very agresive, I beat the hell out of it trying to get it some what tight again, all to no evail. I am now sure yet, at least the balancer is history, and may be the end of the crank. I have bean hearing this sound for quet a while, thinking it was the altrnator a little loose in the bracket. I found the loose balancer when tightning the alt.. I had not thought about it comeing loose and attacking the radiator, thanks for that info. Some things tend to slip your mind when you find a mess like this. I will get it fixed latter at some rate, and yes this 6 has seen some high RPM's, surely some of the problem. Thanks for the input.
Hard to tell from your explainations, but if it comes off of there while driving or just running it will screw something up. I'd pull the balancer to see what's wrong. Take your radiator out cause there not easy to find or repair now a days.
Yep, getting it fixed later is a smart move on your part. Just keep driving it and it might even fix itself.
