This is a newb question that I'm sure many of you know. How much hp does a power steering pump drain? I'm running and ol' Y and am considering making the conversion. Any thoughts?

If you need power steering it won't matter how many horses it takes. My bet is you won't notice any difference. IMHO

I keep going back and forth on it. Still undecided, I was just wondering from a completely practical hp standpoint.

Unless you are dead scared of loosing a couple of tenth's or hundredth's in the quarter or the engine is extremely low powered to begin with you will never know the difference.

Having arm wrestled the 48 without power steering for around 20 years it will have it when it gets redone.
Bigsam, I'm not the runt of the litter by any means but when you take a trip to the emergency room in the middle of the night because of severe chest pains and find out that every muscle across your chest is inflamed because you just made a three hundred mile trip in a rig with hard steering it's time to make the swap.
