I was just casually talking with a co worker about liking old cars yesterday, and he up and says "my family has a '32 four door under a tarp in a barn that's been sitting for 50+ yrs. It has 16,000 miles on it." I almost ****ped my pants! He doesn't know anything about cars, and he says no one in his family does (found this out in a round about way by asking the right questions). He also says that it's not for sale, but he's a real nice guy and I'm sure he would take me out to look at it. Would make a fun afternoon anyway. So, if I can convince him over time, and it is actually a '32 four door, what's a fair price if it's in decent shape? I have no intentions of screwing him, but I also want to get a decent deal if I can.... Wasn't sure if these barn stories where true, even here in Iowa, but it looks like I just may find out!
It's really the only 4dr hot rod I would own. Check out HotRodPrimer's car and see how cool that thing is. I can't give you a price because I am not sure but it's worth a good penny I bet. What's it worth to you?
Complete, no rust and valid paperwork, from 25K and up. There's a body on Ebay for 16K. But you need to look at it and determine what it's worth to you.
The key phrase is "under a tarp". If it's rough, it might go for a few thousand. But 32's being the overpiced in demand cars that they are are almost as good as gold. Fairly complete project fordors are going for $12,000-20,000. Runners from $18,000-25,000. There's one on ebay right now that sold a year ago for less than $25,000, it's on a good street rod ch***is & the body is heavy patina. Hope for an uneducated seller needing money fast.
You tell us about the car. You ask about what it's worth. You say it's been in the family a long time and it's NOT for sale. Then you say you want to get a good deal but not screw anyone. HELLO.....................if it's not for sale what part of NO don't you understand? By not having a basic understanding of the english language i'm betting you'll badger the guy to the point he will be sorry for ever telling you about it and probably end up making an enemy out of him. The car is worth around $75,000. Offer him $350 and see how it goes. Frank
ive seen decent 32 4 doors running and driving for 23,000.00 find out if its a V8. ---------- they will sell it just stay after them.
How long is a piece of string? Seriously, you need more info to make that decision. Rust, rot, interior damage, gl***, drivetrain condition, undesireable modifications? All things that affect the value. From the vague description you got, I think it's safe to ***ume it's not going to run without some work/$$$, probably needs everything. I also agree with Jeffrey James in that it's one of the only 4 drs I would care to own. If it's in decent shape and solid, $10k-15K is a good starting point. Some people might pay a lot more than that, but I wouldn't...
If the mileage is correct and it can quailfy for the Rouge Cl*** in the Early Ford V8 Club you might have a $40K car. I just looked at a seventies restoration that was priced at $35 K but not yet sold. A good original car should be worth more especially if it is a V8 and has all the right parts. Note if it is standard or deluxe (round dome light in the center versus oval at the rear) and 4 clyinder or 8. Don't piss the guy off but a few pictures would be good. Charlie Stephens
Hey, let up on the guy. Things could change once he gets in the barn, you need to be prepared. A 32 that has been in a barn for 50 years is a old barn car. Any old 32 4dr that is solid is at least $10 k or a little better
I think some of you guys are confusing asking prices with worth. It's worth what someone will actually pay for it. I'm trying to sell my Deuce sport coupe and can't even get a ridiculously low offer. I think everybody is scared ****less. I wouldn't believe everything you read about Deuce prices today.
I bought a car from a fellow once and he had another car in a shed that was a real gem but hadn't been out of that shed in 15 years. I asked if it was for sale and he said no. I said well if you ever decide to sell it... He said "Yah you and everyone else". We just laughed about it. Three years later he called me right out of the blue and ask if I was still interested.. we made the deal over the phone. It seems his neighbors pissed him off by low balling him with offers .. he said "Cheap SOBs -- he wanted it out of Iowa...." so off to Michigan it went - with me. If it's meant to be it's meant to be..
Yes ... be prepared for it to be something OTHER than a 32 Ford. Well over HALF of the supposely barn type 32 Fords I have looked at in the past 25/30 years turned out to be some thing else. Worse one was a 1948 Packard. It was a decent car ... but so far removed from from a 1932 Ford it is not even funny. .
Sorry guys, have been gone for a few days so I haven't got to the thread. Thanks for all the info. I just want to be prepared if I do get out to the car. I know pics would be best, but I was just looking for ball park. I know values on late '30s cars, but have never been up on '32 because I just thought I could never afford one or that I would ever run across one that no one else knows about. Calm down dude. I haven't badgered him, nor would I. It's not like he's a total stranger and I keep knocking on his door. Basic understanding of the english language? I think anger management cl***es may be in your future.
