Thanx for your replies ! Thing is , I realy don`t care what people call my cars , But there is a reason for this post :
At Work : a 19 year old Girl came over and said :
"I just heard that you are building a Street Rod ???"
Well , what could I say ?? My mind was a blank !!
Then , I tried to exsplain what the car would look like , and she
    said : " You mean like a Rat-rod ?? Cool !!! "
    I said : " Yup , kinda like a rat-rod ...
Rest of that chat was me asking her
how come she knew anything about rods !! ... Turned out that most of her ( boy )friends had sixties US-cars,
and some of them friends was collecting parts to build "rat-rods" ...
So, you see , the easiest way to make people understand
what my roadster will look like when finished , is probably to call it a "Rat rod" ...

so let me get this straight....it's okay to call your rig a rat rod if you're selling it on ebay, but the rest of the time it's not?all you ***s were saying "rat rod" when you had your cuffs, and pompadours....now that you wear tight pants and dress like mods or whatever,it's so not fashionable it's about the cars, not what you call them even the goldchainers know you little princesses get bent out of shape if they call your pile a rat rod..i'm sick of this topic.primadonnas.

  4. My favorite thing about these loosely aplied tags our vehicles get is the way the term STREET ROD applies to a 75 Torino or some other obscure non mainstream vehicle that is modified..... [IMG] the PUBLIC only knows what the "magazine said"...so thats an innocent reply and we as owners should just smile and nod and get on with the conversation rather than argue the pointless point. When it'll really get you is when you drive 1/2 way across the country to some event, do the 100 mile poker tour and the Friday night cruise for several hours while the billit cars overheat and have to park it, then win "Best Unfinished" in the Sunday car show! So you gas it up, grab a cup of coffee and hit the road for home while the "Best 30's", "Best Hot Rod", "Long Distance", and "Best Custom" winners are still loading their cars into the trailers. nate, what are these tight pants of which you speak?
By mod, do you mean modern?

  9. So let me get this straight... If you put a 3/4 race cam in a V8, only 6 cylinders will work, right? Or, does it only go 3 fourths as fast as a full-race cam? Does it burn 3/4 the gas? Is a four-banger cam a 3/4 race cam for a V6? Does it win 3/4ths of the races it's in? Just what the hell is a three-quarter race cam, anyway? If ya wanna talk about names, that one really pisses me off. [IMG]

Hell, I was thinking of starting a new thread asking what exactly it was myself. Since this topic is gay anyways, just what is a "3/4 race cam"? [IMG]

Catagories are for folks on the showcar circuite. Hell call it a zoom mobile if ya want.
I think I have pretty basically settled for ride. My ride, your ride, place name here's ride.
I think there's a difference between someone who has a ride or is activly buildin' a ride then a poser that is just trying to impress someone with someone sort of vocabulary that they think is cool.
Call it what ya want, just build it and drive it.

Hey guys, A "3/4 race cam" for a flathead is less radical and more streetable as it idles better than a "full race cam".
There are pretty radical cams now that are used to get a good lopey sound and still be streetable. The right lopey sound is as important [IMG] for a flathead as the right stance is for any hot rod. Any time you fire it, it draws a crowd.

To those FEW who don`t know what a 3/4 race-cam is , GO buy a HONDA ... [IMG]
Waaay back in time, Bikers had a " Rat-bike" term to catergorize those wild bikes that looked like they was driven right out of a barn after 30+++ years of sleep ....
    Until the day I understood that the "Rat-rod" term was becoming a House-Hold name , THIS ( pix )is what I would name a " RAT-ROD" .....

Klaz, you sure did stir up a **** storm by just asking a fairly simple question. Dang, I've read all the responses so far and, if you think about it, calling it "your car" probably works best. Can't misinterpret that, right? However, I always go back to my mentors in this hobby, Bob and Carl Austin, who started building their '27 T in 1952, and try to remember what they called their car. They were kind of around in the beginning, so I think their views are germaine to the subject. In all the years that I heard them speak of their T, I never ever heard them refer to it as anything else but a "hot rod." If that name was good enough for them, then it damn well is A-OK for me. Rest in peace, Carl-I sure miss you.
Klaz, just my views on things-call it what you want. Everyone else can "go into the woods and propigate themseves".

Klaz that 32 is sad, whats the story on it?
To me there aint no such thing as a Ratrod.
If its a rod then it shouldnt be ratty. It may have flat paint, and a few dents, but should be well built and safe.
as far as labels, my kids just call mine "the roadster" and they're 5 and 7, I think they figured it out well enough for me.
