This is probably a ridiculous Q (flathead related)

  1. Is it necessary to drain the coolant out of the radiator when removing the intake on an 8BA?

    Nope, from memory only air and fuel go through the manifold - and maybe exhaust if it has a heat riser. (Don't think it has)
    But then again it's been many years since I worked on an 8BA...

    8BA does use a heat riser. As above, intake is dry.
