i got a 66 fury with 318 poly motor & 727 im switching to 383 big block & suitable 727, i also got proper engine support bracket but when the motor is in the engine bay its very close to the firewall & sits up at the back, the sump is just on the tie rod & the oil filter is hitting the sway bar, Apparently this is just a straight bolt in swap according to the mopar guys out there, has anyone had this problem with mopars it looks like the motor needs to b moved forward about 1 inch.
Something wrong with your trans mount. 66 fury is a c body so shold use same mount as 66 Chrysler. Get that. Attach tans to the crossmeber and work from there. Don
We have a '66 Fury VIP with a factory 383/727... I know that is not much help, but is ought to fit... Good luck bud.
As I said best way to make absolutley sure you are doing it right is BOLT The TRANS mount up first . That aways locates the engine /trans properly. No need to go Moparts hundreds of mopar experienced guys right here. Don Should be no difference in where the engine block mating is in a small bock or a big block. trans are just a different bolt pattern not a different length. My 63 426 is sitting in the shop right now. It was a 318 car originally. It is now a big block car. Lots of room from back of head to firewall. Same driveshaft same trans mount , just proper big block engine mounts (from Schumacher)
The 66 big block C bodies have a special drivers side mount that bolts to the front ear on the engine block with 1 bolt and then wraps around and bolts to the front of the block with 2 bolts right next to the oil pump. If you look at any big block there is you will see the bosses on the front. Some are drilled and tapped and some aren't These holes were also used on other models for power steering, etc. This same mount was also used on the 67 and up big block Darts. There is a company called Imperial Services that offers alot of these different mounts. Both engine and tranny. They have a website so just google them.
Another thing is If you have hp exhaust manifolds you need a driver side specific for c body, pass side is same as b body. Check cbodydrydock.com for info on swap.
The drivers mount was like this originally on 65 c bodies I personally would find a way around this, but these guys have the parts to do it the factory way http://www.engine-swaps.com/
6 cyl, la, and b/rb each have thier own k-frame, swapparoozie cobbled up mounts are NOT gonna cut it, no matter what they cost! i have had combos and swaps of every mopar power plant including a lsew of 1st gen hemi's in a, e, and b chassis, auto's and sticks, fenderwll and under frame headers, I could never beat the system.
The mounts from Schumacher are great! You do not necessarily need the factory parts these days to accomplish a Mopar engine swap. They are not "cobbled up" as the above poster would insinuate.
as others said i don't know if this will help but i have a 66 300 with a 383 it came with a 383 new but had a worn out 400 when i got it I changed it back with a 69 383 out of a polara. no problems. I also saw an old woman who had a 66 fury with a 383 I asked her to let me look at it and it looked identical under the hood as mine. it will fit
I have fabbed up mounts from slant six k frames to big blocks in a-bodies with no issues - like Don said bolt up the transmission and work from there. The Schumacher stuff is great, I just like fabbing my own. What system were you trying to beat?
In the 'old' days we swapped plenty of B-RB into A-LA holes and never changed a k-frame. Maybe it was all of that extra magic potion left over from the 60's..... If you don't have the correct 66 mounts then follow AJ thoughts and fab up what you need, assuming you tools and talent. And as noted, the driver side exhaust is a c-body item. .
I am putting a 70 440 in a 70 318 auto Challenger. I know this is off HAMB stuff so could any of you guys that know PM or email me what 727 to look for such as are all the big block 727s the same or are they body specific,longer/sorter tailshafts etc. What do I need to get or do to do this?I wanted to take advantage of this since there are so many MOPAR guys seeing this. Please PM or email me so we dont get kicked off the HAMB My email is aaltered@sbcglobal.net Thanks, Dennis
That is the same mount as the 1967 383 ply b,cuda Formula A. A body mount.Driver side, and had a wicked exhaust manifold
