Awesome. Take 93 from Vegas down to the 60 on into Phoenix and the 10 from Phoenix about 800 miles into texas and the 290 into Austin. Shortest way and about 1200 miles or so. Takes a couple days. There is a whole lot of nothin in between Vegas and Austin! It's a Loooonnng drive but well worth it, and the desert is gorgeous.

  3. I 'was' planning on doing the same trip. I was going to try and come in the top of Texas and maybe drop into Bass' shop on the way through, maybe send him PM if you plan on doing the same thing.

Always nice to stop in Phoenix but staying up on I40 would probably be better. Not sure what they do after you answer "Are you a US citizen?" at the border patrol check point on I10 after you enter TX!

Hey Terry - If you want to save a few bucks, I live in Hutto which is 20 miles North of Austin. I've got friends in England and have made a pact with them. They'll put up anyone from Texas if I put up anyone from England. I actually just had 2 Swedes stay with me for 3 weeks. You Euro-rodders are good people.

If you need a place to crash, you're more than welcome to crash at my place and cruise with my friends and I to the roundup. There will be no shortage of beer and grub either.

PM me if you're interested, if not, no worries. :D

I've done the "widow-maker" LA to Austin trip and back. It's 24 hours straight one way, no matter how fast or slow you drive. This last trip about killed me... i'll camp out on the side of the road next time.

No more fatigue induced hallucinations please.

I disagree there is a lot between vegas and Austin, Stop in AZ Phoenix, area has a great number of shows and great HAMB people. WE are on 60 and you will have to go through the town. To get on I10 and on to TX.

PS I lived in Austin in the 70's and it is great but we have a great life here.

If you'd like to travel part of the way on the old Route 66, there's a 150 mile stretch of the old highway between Topock, AZ (near the Colorado River) and Seligman, AZ, where you get on Interstate 40. A few old towns and tourist traps along the way.

If you'd like to visit your old bridge, it's here in Lake Havasu City, AZ, about 20 miles south of Interstate 40. It all would depend on what you want to see and how much time you have to sightsee.

  19. About 15 to 20 miles east of El Paso on 10 is the best steak you can buy. Cattleman's Steakhouse! An old dude ranch with all kinds of animals including a live rattlesnake pit!

  20. Cool....I'll see you there then. :D

No way. RUDY'S BBQ! "The worst bbq in TX" Mmmmmm.

Anyways. I moved to Austin from Vegas and that must have been the longest drive of my life. I took the 40 to the 10 and then the 290. I'm never doing it again. We drove straight through and I slept in the cab of the truck with my 6'4 boyfriend. Not fun. Between Phoenix and El Paso it's pretty much a snooze.
