Im just going to throw this one out for opinions. I have serched... for about three hours, and no real answers. Can you or has anyone run a Super Bell Aluminum drop axle in a 35-40 ch***is. The king pins are 46" and a spring perch of only 34". I'd like to run one just for the saving in unsprung weight. But the narrow perch centres, Im not sure. Who knows if this could work. The car is a fenderless 36 pickup, split 37 bones. Thanks Stu

  2. In MY opinion, nothing beats forged steel for strength and durability...which out weighs the unsprung weight savings...FWIW...

First I love those axles, I like the concept, I like the look, I like them.

    They FLEX

even on a 32 highboy coupe, you can watch the axle flex. You can push on the tire while parked and see it flex.

This makes me feel that they would be best under a very light car with a small/ narrow tire. I have been also looking in to it, and I have not heard of any failures or alignment issues down the road. Under a full fendered car you would not see the axle flex as much, so it may not bother you. I would check with superbell as to the weight rating of the axle.

If what you say is true I wouldn't use one. That is to say "if it is true". I have a friend that has one under his '32 and I've never seen it "flex". Anything that will flex will deform with time and as I understand Super Bell did extensive testing before releasing this product. If I had one that was flexing under use I'd be getting with the manufacturer and finding out why.

I was able to actually pick one up yesterday and was amazed at the weight. I feel this is the big plus with this axle, But will it work on a 35 frame. The narrow perch center is my concern. Someone must have tried this setup before. 34" perch center. Stu

That setup will work, but I personally would rather go with forged steel. I have an axle Jig to drop original axles. PM me if interested.

there is a substantial weight different between the two, but not in contrast with the over all weight of the car. sure, you'll save twenty or thirty pound, but it won't be noticeable in a car that size.

I guess I should have not mentioned the aluminum axle. Can you run a 34" perch center, 46" axle on 35- 40 rails.

Why not contact the company and ask them? They almost certainly know because it's almost certainly come up before.

Try calling them at 1-800-334-7240, or email them at calkid@fairpoint.net if you prefer.

    Just a thought.
