Very Nice Kiwi Kev. Thanks for taking the time to take photos & posting them. Cool Thread!!

Hope to see you at Mooneyes X-mas!!!

  2. Yoiks! Leaning the posts makes a lot bigger job of the chop, doesn't it? We're still working my my chop without leaning the posts....still a fair amount of work but nothin like yours...hoochie mama.

Hey! the kid from HR PUFF N STUFF choppin tops. :p Sorry could'nt resist. Gas welding seperates the men from the boys real quick! My first chop was a 50 Chevy truck, had some issues getting the windsheild shape sorted out on that one. No offense to Mr. Barris but I like the look of A pillar as you finished it as compared to the little fairing at the bottom.
    Just my opinion. John

    Hi all,
I had the privilege of watching this chop first hand. This is my 34, which I have owned since 1992. It started out as a basket case. I put it together as a black primer, fenderless, hoodless, channeled hot rod with a 32 grill and plywood floor. I started driving it in 2000. It had a 327 with a 6 speed and never left me stranded. I was returning from El Mirage in 2007 and decided to tear it down to build it the way I always wanted it.
I normally pride myself in doing all the work on it myself, but realized I could really screw the car up attempting this chop alone.
Deciding to ask Kevin for help was the best decision I could have make. The pictures do not do the finished chop justice. Kevin is a real craftsman and deserves all the credit. It turned out better than I even imagined it could. Most of the 'filler' will be done with primer! I got to be his apprentice for six days as we chopped the top and learned more than I thought I would. I have a whole list of tools I need to get!
I now go into the garage to work on the 34 and find myself staring at it because it looks so bitchin. I'm new to the HAMB and will post pictures of the cars progress when I figure out how.
Thanks again Kevin, I couldn't be happier with the results.

    So Cal Greg,

Thanks to you as well! It was awesome to be able to watch along with you and Kev working over your ride. AWESOME. It must have been nerve wrecking as well as fun as hell!! I have read a lot of Kevs posts and seen a lot of the pics he posts here, and I am not sure you could have asked anyone better/nicer than the guy you did. I have never met Kevin, but I think it would have been an honor to just watch him work, let alone working with him on my own ride!!
I sit here in Michigan with the wind howlin, snow blowin like mad outside, wishin I could take a ride out to Cali and visit you guys!!!! Sure would be a lot better than just freezin my ass off!! Some day, if I can swing it, I will make the trip out there and hopefully can cross paths with you, Kevin, and many others that I read about here on the HAMB.
Hell, I would just enjoy stopping out front of Kevins place and drooling at all the killer yard art he has....and hopfully get a glimpse of a willys coupe....Anyways, great post, killer car, and please keep us posted.

OH Yeah, WELCOME TO THE HAMB.

AMAZING POST>> I am truly inspired seeing this.. Really Awesome Kevin. You rule. Kevin was the first person who really inspired me to have a Chopped hot Rod. I still can remember the feeling I had Riding down main street ventura in his model A Coupe. It was one of my most memorable experiences in my life. Its seems like it was yesterday!!!

thanks again for the years of inspiration Kevin

You make it look a lot easier then it really is, I am sure. I also know that its not you first one, but I bet you learn some thing new each time. Thanks for sharing. When I was learning a lot of guys would only let you see there backs. They were afraid you might learn some thing. Dad always said you steal with your eyes. I'm doing that now with a friend thats doing a Packard V12. Its and awsum engine, and hes doing most of the work, except machining. he's one of the few left and has done many of them. I'm 71 and still learning. Thanks again for the school. Iceman

I too have just read the 13 pages of this chop.. and it reminds me to tell you the next time you go to a car show or just run into a hot rod that is chopped and it looks just like Henry made it just remember all the hard work it took to get it to look that way... Great job and can't wait to see it done...

  21. Here is a pic of Geof Mitford Taylor'd 34 5w that was mentioned earlier in the thread. Pretty famous car in New Zealand (1970's).

Kev, thats a 'PROPER' hot rod ,as Geoff would put it , as you would know Geoff is H.B. on our forum here, check the plate ! , Must have known he was to go to Huntington Beach ?

  23. Kev any updates on the progess of the 34?

  24. I haven't seen the coupe for a while but Greg has the door gaps finsihed. We went to louver his deck lid a couple of days ago but it had been re skinned , 16g maybe, it was too thick. Needs reskinning or replacing. I think Greg is working on fabbing up a new firewall now.
