    Great pictures!!

The Christie roadster pickup is owned by Cliff Beecher in New Hampshire, Cliff also has a 31 roadster built by Christie

    The Chevy coupe isn't Ken Sargent's - his as a 41 the one pictured is a 40

Now for the 40 Ford coupe with the unusual 1/4 window treatment - It was built by a guy in Dracut Ma. who ran it for one year and parked in the rear of a body shop - note the oval cutouts in the hood, they were cutout to let the showgoers see the 375HP dressed Chevy at shows - when he parked it the engine took on water and seized. A buddy of mine and myself bought the car to try and save it and perhaps make a few bucks in the process. We rebuilt the engine, rewired the car, did the body and painted the car in a bright silver. It was sold the a gentleman in Franklin NH who in turn sold it to someone in Harvard MA. the big block was swaped for an early LT1 - No we didn't make any money on the deal but we saved the car.

It is a 39 and the 1/4 window treatment was to hide the switches for the shaved doors.

speaking of old NE cars, I have one in the shop that was brought in for body/paint. The car was purchased out of Worcester, but it looks to have been built maybe in the late 70's? It looks like Richie's work, and I was wondering if anyone has any history on the car. Steel 32 roadster, full fendered car. Chopped windshield.

Is that the car in the pic?Do you have any closeups of the dtriping;particularly the dashboard?

just some FYI Ken Sargent still owns that chevy coupe. flames, chopped, tilt nose and a blown big block. I should be seeing him and Skip at our annual garage Christmas party.

Joe Scribner p***ed away a year ago, he was a realy good friend. In 1973 I was thirteen years old and had know Joe for five years already. I could see times were a changing, and didn't like were they were going, ie: rear engine dragsters, energy crisis, disaperence of hot rods, I started looking backwards. I had already heard plenty of stories of Sanford from the 50's and 60's, then Joe gave me four big boxes filled full of car magazines from the 50'and 60's. I still have every one of those magazines, and there hasn't been a week go by in the last thirty years I haven't looked up something in those books. Joe also gave me his picture collection before he p***ed away, he knew they would be in good hands. I will be posting some here.

If that cabriolet belonged to Joey,it looks almost identical to a car originally put together by Bill and Bob McKeil from Melrose M***achusetts and that 37 in the background looks a bit like Walter Jepson's car.

Great thread! Whilst everyone is digging up memories I have a question. I have a car (32 roadster) which was built by a guy called Joe Reising from Cedarhurst NY. I have some small black and white pictures of it when it was redone in the early seventies after being involved in a crash on route to the Peoria Nats. I believe it was also a nice car in it's pre crash (50's/60's)guise, but had given up hope of ever finding a picture. I bought the car of Harold Victor, the author of the article in the picture on page 7 of this thread. The car was more or less parted out when I got it. I only got the butchered body, frame rails, hood, top, and heavily pinstriped grille.
Just wondered if anyone had any recollections of the car?

The cabriolet belong to Joe, You could be right on the builders of it though being from Melrose. I know the present owner of the car, he has no plans for it,and does not want to sell it. The 37 was owned by Joe's brother ****, and was built by **** Manley of Saugus. I don't know if Jeppy ever owned the 37.

  20. g***er - Was it a high dollar white 32 hiboy at one time (like in the early to mid 70's)?

If it was I know where I can get you some pics I think.

Actually it was owned(but not built)by Dave Manley who is ****'s younger brother and that is Jeppy's old car.Dave(and ****)is my cousin and Dave bought that when we were in high school.I remember it well because it still had mechanical brakes on it!We converted it to hydraulics($80 for ALL the parts!)and he drove it til his senior year(1961).He was parked at Dunkin'Donuts one day and somebody backed into it and caved in the deck lid.Dave was a real hothead and was going to kick this guy's *** right in the parking lot when he wouldn't give him his insurance papers.Guy said it was an old car anyway and not worth anything!
Many years later I was at Kelsey Martin's shop in Salem and the guy who owned the building(Ed Santisi)and I were talking about his Dearborn Blue 37 and I was telling him about the incident and he almost **** because it was the same car!He always wondered how the deck had been crunched.I wonder if it is still around?

What years did Jeppy own it? Did it go from Dave Manley to Jeppy to **** Scribner. I have seen pictures with **** Scribner with that car from 64, and I met him in 68 and he was the owner.

I'm not sure when exactly Jeppy started it but Dave bought it from him when I was 15(1959)and it was a finished car then with bright orange paint and orange and white rolled and pleated interior. The flathead had two 97's on it and headers but stock heads with a lot of chrome acorn nut covers, and it still had mechanical brakes.
Dave sold it in his senior year in high school which was 1961 and he may have sold it to **** Scribner.Tell you what,I'll call him and see if he remembers.TTYL

Not sure about the 34 but I think the 40 belonged to Paul Gr***o of Medford. That was the car he was killed in on Route 93 before it was officially opened.I was in the Navy from June 64 til October 67 so I wasn't there. They look to be all cars from the same area. The yellow hiboy is Richie Willet's(the one that Bill Besarick bought and then sold to Steve Hitch****)and I can't see it too well but the T on the end might be either Earl Carter's or Peter(Cousin It)something .
