That "restored" 304 wellside is what is left of mine. With the bed cover off, the side boards are wood, natural finished, LHD, and some other stuff the truck never had. I guess a new owner is free to screw up anything he wants. Too bad. I owned three 304's and this was the best one.

Me too! Odd thing is whereas the 55/56 ford sedans etc were a different body shape from the 52/53/54 and 57/58 fords (of america), the utes were all pretty much the same for those years! As in the pic above, the 52/53/54 ford utes, looked pretty much like you would imagine a ute version of a sedan, ie grille, taillights, roofline, side trim etc....but the 55/56 ford utes used the same tailgate, tailights (big round like a 53 ford) and the 52/53/54 ford side rear fender bulge BUT with the 55/56 ford grille and roofline/windshield area! weird huh! Plus our 57/58 ford sedans weren't like the usa 57/58 fords, ours were basically 56 customlines with fancy trim, so consequently the utes of the same year looked pretty much the same as a 55/56 ford ute. :-0 Just a bit of random trivia for the ute lovers across the pond

That would be Ken1939's here on the HAMB. I shipped the body panels across from Australia along with a 1933 Willys roadster ute a few years back. Ken did a wonderful job on this car. Here are a couple of under construction pics - the Ford ute is now finished.

 

Here are a couple of mock up shots of the 1933 Willys roadster ute. The bed panels were so far gone that new ones had to be made using the remains of the originals as patterns. This is however pretty complete as it has a donor chassis with hood and grille.

 

Extended body reveal all the way around makes them look much nicer and more complete

Has anyone got a picture of Alan Jones' 54 Mainline with chopped top with 39Ford split rear window and model T running boards in the bed floor.....He's from Daysdale, NSW....was dark blue when I saw it in 1989. It's definitely one that ought to be on this thread! Thanks in advance...

You guys down under don't know how good you have it. I've always loved utes, don't know why the US had so few. My uncle had a new Falcon in about '63 and my Dad had a '59 El Camino.

 

I could say the same mate,what about all the coupe's we missed out on???.

I'm noticing Queensland as a big influence on rare ute posts, i.e. the '39 Plymouth ROADSTER ute..

 

I know in the ute world this is always a bone of contention. One group says not before 1934. I say it was earlier. If it was 28-31 believe me there would be a ton of them. I stick with 1932 unless otherwise shown "that" vehicle. That and the fact I have only one of two 32 Type 302s on the continental US.
