Hey Hambers, I'm havin some trouble finding the solution to this problem. I want to run bellflowers on my 59 Olds but when I had it in the exhaust shop up on the rack it just didn't seem like it was going to work because of the leaf springs. It seemed like the pipes would have to run between the spring and the frame and the car is already low and it seemed all bad. Any info or if someone wants to point out the obvious that I'm hopefully overlooking would be great. Thanks! The Hamb rules.
Yup... mine are run that way, and they're crunched... oh well. I'll reroute them at some point, but you gotta pay to look THIS good!
Thanks for the reply. So when you re-route you'll have no bells then? Just go out the back or something? How long have you run it like this and how crunched is the pipe? I can live with some of that to have bells. I suppose if you tried to get the pipe up as close to the frame as possible and preflatten like the other brother said...?
I've had them this way for 5+ years, and the 2'' pipe is pinched down to approx 1" x 2-1/4"... not to mention the spanking it's been putting on the lower 1/4 panels! I'll definitely run Bellflowers again, but will likely custom route the pipes through the frame (subframe in my case), and do custom, larger diameter pipes to let the big block breathe a little more.
Spanking on the quarters would be tough to take. I guess this guy just did the custom work that it would take to make the exhaust work. I lifted this pic off the net.
what if you T eed into the pipe behind the shackle and capped the front off inside the wheelwell?....just a thought.....I teed into my full length side pipes about 6" from the outlet just so the whole pipe wouldn't be hot and melt the gals nylons...didn't work tho'....haven't found any gals that want to wear nylons....
I was studying this pic of the 60 Olds a little bit more. It looks like he might have come out just at the very back of the wheel well and then turned. He would still be between the spring and the frame, but that might get the pipe far enough away from the bottom of the quarter panel to not make any damage...? I'm assuming that 60 Olds still have leafs and not coils, I havent been under one before.
