I was getting ready to trail fit the fender skirts and noticed signs of bondo.I grabed the grinder and that shit was 1/2 thick! I think you should have to sign a form that you will not "create" things with bondo!!!!
Bondon't I guess the saying 'It'll buff out', won't work here. I bought my truck from a guy that claimed there was zero bondo in it. Then I pointed to a spot where it was clear that he had used it. Idiots.
Too bad Over here you can almost count on that happening when buying a car older than 25 years, and i just hate it. It just makes the car rust away when it cracks and let water in to the metal!
I tried to make light of my big let down! With the temps.near 50 here in Michigan I've been itching to get it done.Looks like a little set back, but not a hue deal.I did manage to finish welding trim holes today, also worked on the front
I think I'd be more worried about that than the filler. If filler is done right you shouldn't have problems. Don't anyone fool themselves into believing most of these cars don't have filler. I would guess that less than 1% of cars are metal finished.
I dont have a problem with filler once your metal work is close but damn this gave new meaning to the "filler" part of body filler!
I always carry a small magnet to check out a car, owner normally comes clean to the best of his knowledge, but these days theres more traders than real owners so if you don"t check good its your own fault ,went to a swapmeet this morning and looked at 38 CHEVY,guy was just going on and on about the great body,Icrawled underneath rear and both rear quarter panels had hardware cloth to hold the bondo on, come to find out he had picked up the car in a trade 2-weeks earlier.
Thats a shame was there any bubbling of paint in those spots ,If not you have 2 choices ,Either cut it out or if there isnt any problems put bodyfiller over it .Youll never get it clean enough unless you cut it out .
Im not a body man, but is that fiberglass/duraglass stuff you look to be using on the hood and fender, the way to go before finishing it off with a skim of bondo? Not trying to be smart.....its a real question.
The magnet thing doesn't hold true when they use ALL METAL as a filler.I had a so called body man work on my 56 and he put the rockers on with putty.Needless to say I don't patronize his business any more
I found the same thing on my 50 it looks like someone tried to fix the dent with a pick axe and then added an inch of mud... geez
"All Metal" is polyester resin and aluminum powder...it won't attract a magnet. Acts the same as "Bondo"
you need to feather edge your sanding back more, aside from dealing with your former patch panel problem.
It could be worse; my '50 the wheel arches aren't the same side to side and neither one would take a factory fender skirt either. Lead, bondo, home made metal patches, all kinds of crap in there.
I had a friend that would say its only metal and time. take your time you can fix that, your welding looks good.
as a body guy ................I would strip the hood or any panels ..........epoxy them then start your body filler................. you can do that with yer brazzed panel as well and sand the epoxy before bndo werk...and it will stick............. and you should be able to bump it out to thin down the filler or best make new panel good luck
I skim duraglass on and then use filler to feather it out.As far as that quater goes,I didnt notice any bubbles or sign of filler till I cleaned a trim hole for welding. Im going to cut it out and replace it.Im going to run the car for a season in primer to make sure I dont have any issues.
