This will be my first year attending the Lonestar Roundup in Austin. How do I get the most out of it? Are things happening in Austin before Friday morning? Is there a garage crawl around Austin and when is that? Should I hang through Sunday afternoon? Just don't want to miss anything so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  2. Garage crawls are usually on thursday before....Stay tuned here on HAMB someone will chime in on them

Thursday is the BBQ at Reggie's usually noon-ish to 5pm-ish, then Thirsty Thursday with the Thunderbolts then cruzn Congress. The garage craws have been on Friday AM's and lately have been ending at the fairgrounds. Not sure if anyone is doing one this year.

On Sunday is the cruz to the lake then from there folks go to EvilFordCoupe's bike shop for an open house.

You should check out the Lonestar Roundup section here on the HAMB.

I take 2 days off work so that I can get a few things ready Thursday morning, pick up my daughter in Houston, whatever. We make lunch at Reggie's then catch Billy's place in late afternoon to early dinner time. I need to run into town and see what's up Thursday night or I might invite some pals over for grillin' & chillin at my house.

Friday morning starts early with breakfast before the crawl, a tour of the land and then heading out to the Expo center to claim some shade. Friday night is about S. Congress and the area attractions.

    Saturday- Duh!

Sunday- I usually sleep in, but mean to make the ski shores run in the morning this year, or whatever takes it's place.

The big thing to remember is that Austin has hundreds of local restaurants and attractions that you won't find anywhere else. Thursday and Friday afternoon and early evening are all about friends and food for me. It's a good time to make a run to other nearby towns and eat off the beaten path, see some historical interests or shop out of the way markets. Just go exploring. A few pointers from a local and you're on your way.

Whatever you do, don't eat breakfast at the Magnolia cafe. Their love migas and cornmeal pancakes suck. ;)

Check this out. There is a ton to do, and Austin has some KILLER places to eat. The show is great, the night life is even better. I am a littel bummed, I just took a new job and now I don't know if I will be able to attend-but keeping my fingers crossed.

I would go a little different direction in advice for "getting the most out of the Round Up" and tell you to go up to people and introduce yourself and get into some conversations.

Going to all the events is great, but if you are standing by yourself doing it alone, it's kind of a drag. Jump into the crowd, let people know you've come all the way from Virginia and you are glad to meet some new people.

Jason gave some good advice...plan to meet some peps from here to hang with and that will help make your experience so much more of a killer time. Not gonna make it this year so that i can make the drags 2 weeks later.

Jason... How the Heck did you flip your location upside down !!!!!!!!!!!

Bring whatever you want they don't follow their own rules. It needs to be back at the lake. Last year a 70's van and a couple of firebirds on sight. I probably won't go this year. I have been the last 5 years.

Last year was my first year to the roundup and even with the rain, I had a great time. I'm going again this year and can't wait. The Kontinentals put on one hell of a show. Since this is your first time, you'll be hooked and will be coming back. I know I'm hooked.

Thats exactly what I plan to do, my first time was last year and had a blast with the exception of my buddy glued to the phone with his now ex-girlfriend.Rolling solo this year, so hope to meet some of you folks out there. Luckily for me I'm trying to hunt down a gold 64 continental I see taking the country roads from Corpus to Austin, so its a win-win!!

    LSR to do list:

    1. Leave attitude at home
    2. Leave faux greaser costume at home unless its really you
    3. Be prepared to do lots of walking
    3. Don't be shy. We all come with a common bond and most everyone you meet will be friendly. After, Texas is the Hospitality state
    4. Bring Tums
    5. Don't leave Austin without having some killer Tex-Mex. (See 4)

    Some great advice!

I've been to all of the Round Ups (had to leave early one year with a baby on the way) from the very first one in a football field, to the park, to the fair grounds. The first year was my favorite, but it's still my favorite show of the year by a long shot. The people are great, the cars are phenomenal, staff at the show is respectful, best hot dogs in the world! Jefe and the Kontinentals just know how to make folks feel welcome.

If you see any of us Baron's make sure you say hello!
