This chart states 550#each but i've seen a few sites that have Ma Mopar's little mills at 535#. Alloy heads and intake, and i think the Mopar advantage increases even more. Some people just can't accept the fact that the small block Chevrolet is the best designed engine period. The fact that it is 55 years old and stlll being produced speaks volumes. NO other engine has been in continueous production for 50+ years. Make all the noise you want, you can't change facts.
I don't care who ya are, that's funny right there HEY, I got one, 426 hemi's are over-rated boat anchors, a Honda civic will kick a hemi 'cuda's *** all over the neighbourhood....BWAAAHAAAAHAAA 318......gimme a break
Go to any engine builder in the USA and ask which motor is more cost effective to build, has better parts available and will run longer between a SBC 350 and anything else.
Glad to receive this valuable information. Guess I better get started taking that reliable, inexpensive, simple, underperforming engine out of the majority of my cars. How bout my flatheads? **** too?
dang ya ask a simple question here and it starts a ******* match . i asked for weight comparison not which engine is better. thanx to the guys who posted some info i was looking for
Sorry pugs! Didn't mean for this to happen.. There's always a nutcase that's gonna throw a wrench into the works.
Just keep in mind that the various charts, rarely, if ever qualify the weights listed by indicating exactly what they are weighing...starters, generators, alternators, air clearners, exhaust manifolds, with or without fluids...you get the picture. .
No, they arent even cheap, $4000 dollars can get you either a stock 350, or a kick*** 383. The reason they sell the most, is cause you can get them in crate motors, and they are cheap for factories to build. but thats what you get, $2000 for a used engine, and now its stuck. Good thinking Did you know that the briggs 1 horse has been used for 70+ years? Is it the "Greatest" no. The best from an engineering stand point, is the 351 cleveland. any reason? no, im saying it cause you said 350 is, and you have no reasoning. Not reliable, nowadays, they are ALL made in china, (save for edelbrock) and are so UNreliable. and so expensive for such a weak motor! $4000 for a crate motor? Not cheap, maybe lazy. But certainly not cheap. And what you said is another reason why i hate 350's, Because YOU PUT THEM IN EVERY GOD DAMNED CAR YOU GET! Then for some reason, (not joking) you tend to YANK the motor out of your car, then sell an empty car, if your motor is so cheap? leave it in there you ****ing chevy head! 350's are like camaro's, im tired of seeing them at every god damned carshow there is. Ever heard of the 57 Rambler rebel? its 327 could easily kill a 350, the only thing chevy did, was take a corvette, and use fuel injection, and only, on a GOOD DAY, could chevy's beat a rambler. You chevy guys never cease to make me laugh, you guys know your the ***-end of jokes from rambler/ford/mopar/anythingelse guys everyday! AHAHAHAHAHA.
See kids, this why you shouldn't do drugs. Seriously, your first post was funny but it's getting old real fast (and lame). Everyone has their favorites. That's what makes the world go 'round. If you feel that strongly about it, why not offer an open challenge for pinks to anyone with a sbc. Might have trouble finding someone that wants a rambler though.
WOW! This started out as a comparison of physical size and weight, which was going quite well, until... Maybe the 'rambler guy' will be kind enough to go back and delete his diatribe and then others will follow until we get back to the size/weight thing.... .
Who the f@# cares. Just build it. I say just build the biggest motor you got and fit it into the smallest space available I owned a Rambler once, just once.
and I quote from his bio "Im 14, and a couple years ago, i went to a drag race," and he mows gr***.......sounds like you have been arguing with a punk *** kid http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=863169&d=1262847001
Boy, have you got a lot to learn kid! I see you are looking for 327 Rambler engines, try looking in the bottom of the harbor you live by. They were a poor attempt by Rambler to copy G.M's early Olds and Cad motors.
