Someone sells a home Biodiesel kit on the internet for about $500. All you do is put 40 gallons or so of veggie oil , some methanol and lye in it and in 24 hrs you got about 40 gallons of biodiesel. You can also buy biodiesel in 55 gallon drums and get a pump and use it at your house, my neighbor runs a 2003 vw tdi and we have considered splitting em.

    Screw big oil

    VIVA LA BIODIESEL

When I was studying aircraft maintenance, a friend of mine converted a VW Jetta to run on biodiesel. He made is own kit, using a beer keg as a tank and a car remote oil filter kit as fuel filter. You have to heat the tank, lines and filter with engine coolant running around them, that's why you start it on diesel. He wasn't using any additives or methanol and it worked very well.

The problem was that, small quantities of veggie oil are pricey. To save money, he would have had to buy the oil 6 drums at a time.He finally dissasembled the system and sold the car.

If you know a way to get cheap oil, go for it.

  6. U.S. vs. Canadian vs. UK gas prices... I wonder what the tax load is on a gallon in say, Ontario and England? In Michigan it was $.19 per gallon in 2001/2002. Per penny the state collected 49.9 million. Gas right now in western Michigan is running $1.80 for 87 octane regular, so if the same tax load applies it's $1.61.

That's the biggest reason for fuel prices being stupidly high in Europe in general - the tax rates aren't pennies on the gallon, they're percentage of the cost of the gallon. In the US, if a gallon of gas goes up $0.10, the cost to the consumer only goes up that much/gal. In the UK, if the price goes up £0.10, the cost to the consumer goes up the £0.10 + %tax. That's why gas is so expensive in Europe...

The tax system is pervasive & archaic here. EVERYTHING is taxed...

  9. You whiney bastards! In 1989, I was in college and in the National Guard. My total income was per month was $119 on a Privates salary. This was gas, food, beer, insurance. You know what? I LIVED! Had fun, partied hard, money was there.

THought about this the other day and laughed when I correlated the price of gas to my income. I dont make much, after bills,my weekly fun money now is $100 per week. Thats after family costs. I STILL think about the price of gas like I did earning $119 per month, but now I realize the concern and whining is never going to go away! It is human, we actually have it pretty good.

BTW, Our gas on average in the Black Hills is the highest East of California, Premium is $2.19 and the cheap stuff is $1.95 Per gallon

Next time you fill up take a look at the pump and it will tell you how much of the price is tax.Right now I believe it is about 48 cents a gallon and if the Beaver in Lansing has anything to say about it,look for it to be 50 cents higher.I filled up today in Brooklyn(Michigan)and it was $1.68 for 87.Got home to Tecumseh(15 miles down the road)and it was 10 cents higher. It's like a fukkin rollercoaster jumping 20-25 cents at a whack and then coming down slowly but always just a penny or two higher than before. If they raised it 50 cents all at once then there would probably be a revolt so it's done in increments to get you used to it.

First Joe us Brits sppell in English in an Imperial Gallon there are 4.5 litres in an American Gallon there are 4 litres. As for a 30 hour working week mine is a 37.5 hour shiftwork week on early shift getting up at 4.50 in the morning and getting home a 2pm in the afternoon late shift starts at 1.45 pm and goes on until 9.32 pm where i'm too bloody knackered to do anything because my job is very physical. As for free healthcare we not only pay taxes at 22% but we pay national insurance at 3% every month as well as council tax which would equate to $160 every month. As for driving yep you are right but the roads here have lots of bends and the roadsurfaces have very many potholes as nothing gets spent to repair them.i also get about 6 weeks paid off of work but i need it to recouperate as i have athritis through my job annd i'm only 39 why do you think lots of Brits are trying to get into the Us?housing well that is a joke a 1 bedroom flat in a shitty area here will cost you $200,000 and a small 3 bed semi detached house in a shitty area with gardens will cost you $400,000.I dont think you guys have it so bad if you work it out cost for cost clothing is far cheaper in the states as is food and the portions are bigger and where as you get called sir by staff we get waddya want?! then have what we want thrown at us.Now if you want a nice house in the capital say erm in chelsea you would be looking at a cool $10,000,000 and in Hampstead some of the houses are going for $40,000,000 and they are not really as special as the houses you can get for that dosh in the States. All this of course is a matter of perspective the grass will always be greener but i would love to move to the states where you have lots of space......we don't ...........Marq

here in denmark the price on 92oktane is 8,13.DKR pr.liter. that sum's up to 5,8$ pr. gallon.
plus there is a 180%tax on new cars.
we have a sales tax on 25%.
plus we pay roughly 50% income tax.
and the minimum Wage is roughly 95DKR = 16,96$

DKR (danske kroner) is the monetary standard in denmark. 1$ is 5,6 DKR

92oktane and 95/96/98oktane is pump gas in denmark.no lower then 92

Here's something I've wondered - does Canada use Imperial Gallons or US Gallons? [IMG]
