Hey everyone I got taken to The H.A.M.B. drags last year and have been hooked ever since but always done fox body mustangs. Being 18 I haven't done much with anything old just those mustangs but sunday I sold one and today I bought a 39? chevy truck. It doesn't have a title so I'm not sure what year it is but thats a guess. Being new to older vehicles I have some questions. Since it doesn't have a title how do I go about getting one? I have heard about the Alabama? thing where you send them the bill of sale and they send you a bill of sale and you can title it...don't really know the specifics but has anyone done this? I am from Missouri btw. How expensive are they and are they a hassle? I was also wondering about how much it would cost to replace the glass? It will need all of the glass replaced. Anyone have a rough guess on about how much it would cost? Thanks to everyone for any support/answers/suggestions
Check on E bay for glass, its about $290 for the set. good luck with your project and post pics and someone could tell you the year.
Go to the HAMB O'dex and search titles, there are people there who can probably help you. Glass is easy, it should be all flat in a 39, find a glass shop near you, make some patterns out of cardboard or better yet 1/4" plywood and have them cut you some.
If you have a bill of sale and you can find the vin number on the body or on the frame, you should be able to have a state patrol officer in Missouri come out and verify it and then file for a title. Chevy cars and I think early trucks had the I.D. number stamped on the top of the front frame rail.
So you just send them the bill of sale and 350 and they send you a title? Also I have someone that does glass around here so I'll get a quote from them...I was also wondering since it is 6 bolt should I change it or leave it? And does anyone here have some nice 6 bolt wheels? I tried getting pictures but couldn't get them from my phone for some reason but I'll go get some with a camera so I can upload them. The grill has horizontal bars instead of verticle if that makes a difference
I'll get some more pictures when I get the chance...anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking possibly a 39
You might check out Stovebolt.com too. Chevy trucks ('72 and older) is what they're all about. Good luck.
yep 39 or 40 looks like a good start, my 37 didn't come with any front fenders or grille. Keep us posted.
Nice I like the truck!!! Can you just go to a local junk yard, find a compribale truck even 1 ton and take the vin from that. Or there are other ways to get a vin verification for title purposes if thats all your after. There should be numbers on the frame or possibly the engine. Good luck looks tits.
Thanks for the help guys! I went and talked to the DMV and she said my best bet would be a title company so Im just going to have to kick the 350 for it then set in getting it ready for hopefully the rust revival in may
Buy a few peices of saftey glass from the local glass shop and learn to cut it yourself. Its not difficult to do once you get the hang of it.
350 for a title from broadway? the last one i got was 150! i know of another place to, but i cant think of it right now!!! ill findout and shoot ya a pm!
That sounds great...the more money I can save the better!!! The more of a possibility I can make it to the Rust Revival!
350, 150 that's all so much better then a '32 Title. $600!!!! Looks like great project. Keep us updated!
I no nothing about this guy, put he got lots of good reviews from other hambers. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=386646
Hmm alright...I will take the VIN to the DMV will this tell me the year? Also me and another guy on here are picking up an inline 6 tomorrow! He has been a very big inspiration and we are doing this together because we want to drive something to the H.A.M.B. and my funds are short because I'm heading to Tulsa for college so I have to save money...So I'd like to give him some credit also with his brother and father (also hambers and all around great car guys)...Anyone from Tulsa or near on here so maybe can know some "car guys" when I get there.
