Ok I took some photos to show my pal Rich Venza in GA but am posting them here in case the rest of you Hamb friends want to look at them. We had a great weekend here in the heart of America with nice warm and dry weather. Made the trip north to Lincoln, NE which is about a 3.5 hour drive for me. This time my pal Larry who bought the "peter beater" T bucket from me went along. My favorite brother in law Lawrence and his brother Tom met us there later. We arrived on Saturday just in time for the 2 pm tour at the Smith Collection Museum of American Speed. We had a great time for 2.5 hours looking around. Fantastic museum. Here you can see me in the blue sweatshirt and Larry in the plaid shirt with Speedy Bill who took time to tell us some stories which was fun to say the least. <center>

Then on Sunday it was the huge swap meet which was in a new location at a big event center that is home to alot of horse shows. I really liked the new place. Parking was muddy in some places because of a recent snow melt. Alot of people were carrying stuff out and most of the vehicles for sale had sold signs on them later in the day. I have contact info on many of these items in case you need them. <center>

Here is a photo of Lawrence and Tom. Also got to see my pal Terry who was a vendor and a few other friends. Terry sold some signs and bought a cool Ford banjo rear end with Columbia 2 speed complete with control switch. I was happy with my purchases of 10 early Ford wheels, Mercury Y block valve covers and Lincoln y block valve covers. <center>

  6. Paul,

You simply need to convince Rich that he needs to see this in person... AND that he needs me to be his chauffer/valet!

Hey, do you ever come across Samson trucks/parts (not tractor)? I'm looking for a timing cover and gears...

Hey Paul, sorry I missed ya. I got there about 6:30 am drove right in and went directly to that red Dodge van. Super solid and a really nice truck, but kinda funny it wasn't actually for sale. He just had the sign up for his parts etc. We tried to buy it all morning........ he got tired of us and finally moved the sign. Huge crowd, lots of stuff and lots of mud. The only thing I found that I couldn't live without was 4 new air cleaners for the 94's on my 40. Thanks for the pic's. See ya, Gary

Rob Lee was working the Speedway booth in the Multi Purpose Arena - I finally got to meet my "neighbor." Those of us who have been planning for the new venue were very anxious about getting vendors and buyers onto the grounds - by 7:30 (if not before, I lost track) cars were backed up (or so I was told) to near I-80/Waverly interchange on Hwy 6 to the north, and to O Street to the south. Thanks to those attending we max'ed out the space we had available for vendors - over 1000 vendor stalls in total, including both indoor and outdoor spaces. We'll know more about collections for the Food Bank of Lincoln by next Wednesday night when the Car Council meets in Lincoln for its monthly meeting.

As for buyers, I warned everyone here earlier this was going to be a challenge, and the recent snow melt/thawing left unpaved areas (and rocked lots) very soft. Thankfully we were able to use some areas that originally were 'off limits' to us. Between now and next March we'll be evaluating and making adjustments.

We're hoping that the Events Center staff can leverage today's phenomenal turnout into getting funding for more paved lots, especially since they commented that since the State Fairgrounds events have been moving there they've been dealing with more spectator traffic than they anticipated.

Yes, I liked the new location very much and I would like to point out that the old location would have had many muddy parking areas as well.

  17. Just for the record Mac, I attended the Rocky Manganelli Memorial Swap Meet for the 10 years I lved in Lincoln. It's great to see that it has grown from the small indoor event back in the early 80's to it's current size.
    Thanks for the photos Paul.

My wife and I came in from the south and had to get some canned foor for our donation so we stopped at the Wal-Mart. Traffic was only backed up to the stoplight in front at around 8:00.

We did as some other people did and parked at Wal-Mart then walked to the swap. I left our donation in the NE most building, I hope that was ok?

Any way great swap, I've never been to one soo big.
And I actualy saw 4 or 5 Jeep parts.

When we first started firming up plans with the Event Center, Wallyworld's official line was "we won't allow people to park here just for the swap meet." Found out yesterday afternoon that Wallyworld didn't mind people parking there, figuring that before or after they left they'd stop in the store and buy something. As for the food donations we were asking people to leave items brought in at the various sign-in tables in the buildings.

Hey Paul and Rob Lee, and Malcolm (Nick),
Almost got a chance to see you guys at the Lincoln Swap Meet.. Got there at 4pm yesterday, but most action was over. I spent too much time down in North Central Kansas, getting an owner located for another '50 Chebby pickup to buy for parts. The guys wasn't home, but I got more photos and will stop back there on Tuesday.. Did get a new Speedway catalog, so it was worth stopping by..

Am up in Nebraska today to attend the funeral of a Scouting friend in Bellevue, who p***ed away from cancer. Headed home tomorrow..

Am planning to attend the HAMB BBQ in Abilene (looks like fun) on 24 April, so hope to see you guys there...duane (NM Sandrail)

Just a thank you to all who came and braved he parking dilemmas and the mud. I think all in all the swap meet at the new location was a huge success. All of the food dropped off at the buildings was forwarded to the food bank and we were happy to help with it. Most everyone we dealt with was very cordial and understood the problems of a first year venue, and I only hope the city can help make next year an even bigger and better event. Thanks so much!

  29. Paul, nice pics. Its almost as if I were there, oh, wait I was there! I didnt see you either, but I saw a ton of people I knew. That blue 4 door Plymouth 55? was the bargan of the day @ $2300.00 I believe. It was a nice old car. There were 4 guys I work with there and I didnt see them either. I have never seen so may people in Lincoln, it really has grown since I started going in 1980. Thanks to the patience of all who attended since it was a learning curve for the new facility. See ya this summer somewhere.
