Ok...Here we go...I'm stoked...so at the latest Voodoo meet I had person after person come up and ask me about the drive up to Billetproof in June...So here are some of the details. Reminder: This is NOT a sanctioned 'Billetproof' event, I'm just a guy, that's a huge fan of the show, that thought it would be cool to get a bunch of people to mob up to Chehalis for the show...Cool? First off...Billetproof? What is it? If you have not been...but are remotely interested in anything you see or hear about here on the HAMB...then you're in for one Hell of a time!!! For official information, check out www.Billetproof.com. Official Dates, Rules, Location, and Hotel information are all on the site. Now for the ESTRANGED CC 'Event'- All Clubs and non-Club enthusiast are Welcomed!! Covering my Ass: 'Run at your own Risk!!', seriously...we're all adults (well, I am kind of?), and responsible for our own well being. This is all about fun...but no one is responsible for you and your property...but YOU. Now the Fun Stuff!!! I will be finalizing the details in the coming weeks, and I will have a flyer made up to hand out to everyone at April's Voodoo Meet. However, here are some of the Meat & Potato details of the Run. Leave Saturday Morning (June 26th), first day of the show. Location is yet to be determined. I'm looking for a Portland location with plenty of room to park prior to rolling out (Jubitz Truck Stop?), Gas Station/Service station/Mini-Mart for those that may have spaced something at the last minute? Full tank of gas? And finally, somewhere close to either I-5 or I-205 on ramps...with minimal lights (You motorcycle guys know they always break up the group! Huh?). We'll head out approximately 8am (Agreed? Earlier? Later?). The drive is approximately 88 miles, all freeway. Some of us have gearing, motors, suspensions, and so on that will limit the speed inwhich we'll travel. So we'll grab the right lane and cruise at a comfortable speed for everyone (Concerns? Please let me know). We want to make sure everyone enjoys the trip up...so just do your thing, but remember- 'Run at your own Risk'. There are plenty of gas stations off of I-5 between Portland and Chehalis, my truck get's about 8-9mpg on the freeway, roughly half a tank to get to Chehalis...if you're worse than that...be prepared!! We will have a planned stop- either in Longview (48 miles from Portland) or Castle Rock (58 miles from Portland), just a little more than halfway. There is a Shell Station in Castle Rock with plenty of lot to park the cars. 'Chase Vehicles'? I know a few of you will have your family/friends haul tools, gas cans, personal items, FOOD? They of course are welcomed to 'Run' with us!! I'll have plenty of map/direction copies for everyone!! Once in Chehalis, We'll gather once more before heading to the Fair Grounds...only a few miles off I-5. There is a Mexican food restaraunt (quick snack, couple of tacos? I know I will) with a good size parking lot, and a gas station as well. We can gather there...then head over to Billetproof!! Get in...Park...kick open the cooler...lawn chairs...and just chill surrounded by some of the most kickass Traditionals, Kustoms, LowRodz, and People you've ever seen!!! Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn...My family and I are staying the whole weekend, it is a two day event, if you are too...check out the list on the Billetproof website. So...that's it for the most part...if you have any questions? Please let me know!! Suggestions? Hit me up!! When it's all said and done, I Live for Billetproof. It's everything I'd ask for in a Car Show. There is No BS. No Militant officials or staff. No attitudes. No stuffed dolls covering thier faces, leaning against the whitewalls? Alright...What's everyone else think?? Cheers!! MONDO Official quote from Billetproof.com- "PLEASE remember that this is an event for those of us who build our own traditional style rods and customs on a limited budget. NO billet-clad, digital gauge, pastel graphic, named after a fifties song trailer queens!"
Sounds like you've got it figured out pretty well. Don't anybody wait 'til the last minute on Billetproof NW this year. It got discovered big time last year and this year is going to be on fire. A number of folks were concerned about the drive last year and didn't go. Then there was a lot of whining about it on H.A.M.B. when they found out how much fun they missed. A group run should make it much safer.
Just thought of something...for those of you North of Portland, but South of Chehalis...we could make Longview our half-way stop and you guys and gals can join us there? For those of you in that area...that way we're not hooking up on the fly...although, how cool would it be to have a line of Rodz lined up just off the side of the road...motors running...just waiting for us to fly by...then slam on the gas, fishtail them rear rubbers and line up with the rest of the pack, all the while listening to Charlie Ryan's 'Hot Rod Lincoln' screaming out the speakers! Ahhh...there I go, Day Dreaming...Anyhow, think about it and let us know so we can get you a time frame to meet us there?
Thanks for the great info Mondo! I will definitely be going this year and lookin' forward to rolling' with the rest of the "Convoy" to Billetproof in the T! Missed it last year cause the T wasn't done yet by a week or two, but not this time!...guess that means I gotta put a check list together before we roll out.
All sounds great. Good to see someone planning early. Just a couple notes: -Billetproof is limiting it to 750 entries. I don't know if that means they will turn away number 751, but it would be a pisser to drive that far and not be able to enter the fairgrounds. So everybody should know to register early. This might fit under your "Run at your own risk!!" cya statement. -Last year was a big hit, and I'm hearing of a lot of interest from Northern WA and Canada, and I mean groups coming together. Should be no problem getting 750 cars this year. I'm going to do my part to promote it in our area, of course, so we can have a good showing. -Be prepared to wait in a long line of cars when you get there. -For those who haven't been before, you can have a crapload of fun without being stupid - there seems to be a trend for one or two idiots to ruin the future of events like this. Billetproof works with the cities and the police and they all are aware of this - everybody involved wants it to be fun. I don't know, but maybe the best thing to do would be to have a little chat with anyone you see who looks like they could cause trouble. Here's a hint- they are usually (but not always) in vehicles that don't qualify for Billetproof - riceburners, late models, local hi-schoolers in 4x4s or their mom's cars, and such. If they know they are being watched, maybe they'll behave - or even butt out of the cruise if they get the clue. Cameras are good - once you take someone's picture while talking to them (in a non-threatening way, of course) they are more likely to behave. -Don't forget to show some appreciation to Billetproof, the LEOs, and the businesses of the towns. Everybody is putting out, and I my wife can't imagine how any community would put up with over a thousand punks like me out to have fun. If you only read the stuff in red, dont forget to register early here.
Mondo, we'll be going with the 'Vair keep us posted! We'll be staying close by Clayton on the way as we've done this before last march in a downpour going up I-84!
I always get a big smile on my face when I see that picture...the rooster tails and the profile of that roof line scream- BADASS...
So I'm registered for Billetproof...$30.00 Pre-Register, $35 at the door...if there's still 'room'!!! and...I have reservations at the Holiday Inn Express in Chehalis (not the airport location). We stayed there last year, and although it is not as cheap as a Motel 6 (or alike)...by the way, from what I hear, the Motel 6 did not have A/C...they have a huge all you can eat HOT Breakfast in the morning...and the rooms are real nice. You get a few people together and split it...it's well worth it in my opinion. Anyhow, just three weeks till Voodoo and more details!! Get your rooms reserved and pre-register!!! I heard that Billetproof will have a booth at the Portland Swap Meet next month...we'll be sure to stop by the booth!!! Alright...2 1/2 Months to GO!!!! MONDO
Sweet! That gives me plenty of time to tear the T completely apart and put it all back together again in time! Got a few things to do before we go......
Hey everyone... I'm Travis's future brother-in-law and at the last Voodoo Run for this month, I brought along a little camera and took some footage... I've been hearin about the billetproof run. This is the first Estranged promo spot. Rolling up to Chehalis could make for another... Check out this teaser. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO1661k_eAs
I am pumped. I will have the Ranchero ready for that. and I think I will throw my bike in the back as well. I have always wanted to cruise to a show with a big group but never have. I am going to pre register right now. can't wait. I have met a few of you at some of the earlier voodoo runs but am looking forward to making some new pals up here in the nw.
Slight change of plans for me because the T won't be going after all. I know some of you heard from Chris at the last VooDoo meet, but the T is now on loan to the California Auto Museum for 3 1/2 months (Apr 10 - Jul 5) as part of the So.Cal sponsored "Drive Fast, Take Chances: Birth of the Hot Rod" exhibit. Here is the post on the whole crazy adventure last weekend: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=462887
