What are you guys running for Tachometers in your rides?
I have a 51 F-1, and I Put in a newer style Auto-Meter Tach that I had...sure its cool, but It definatly doesnt match the vintage styling of the truck.

What are you all using?...where can i get a real, vintage tach?...not an old looking tach.

Tachometers are just cool to me.

I'm running a Sun blue line in my Comet, bought on ebay. It's been converted to work without the batteries by Williamsons Instrument Service.

  4. I use a baseball card on the front wheel. It hits the valve stem with each rotation. It's very acurate and it sounds super cool.

That would be a spedometer. For a tach just put the card on the engine fan :)
I have a sun tach that goes to 5000

I've got a Sun 8.5-grand tach I had converted by AutoInstruments. The tach was junk before they got it, and they repaired it and converted it to work with modern electronic ignition (including Pertronix).

I've got a 5-grand unit that I was told by another company is unrepairable (they said the same about my 8.5-grand unit) and when I get the '54 Buick on the road, I'm going to have them convert that one for me too.

Heres the face of one, nicknamed "football tach" because of the red football shape on the face.

I like the early Dixco tachs - still use them today. Every car I had "back in the day" had one. Old habits.

I'm currently running a NOS Sun cup (the long version, I believe it's the NC-1) adapted to fit an early Mooneyes tach that was made by Autometer.

I've always preferred the half sweep models myself, so I'm thinking about pulling the Moon gauge and replacing it with one of the new FZ88R models that Kramer posted above. They're suppose to fit directly into the original cups. I'd prefer an original vintage FZ88 but the prices are more than I can afford if they are really mint. The disappointment of the new version is the gauge face is too low in the opening, but I can probably live with it.

Sunpro is also now producing a replica of the SST802. http://www.sunpro.com/product_detail.php?pid=16513

Sadly they mounted it in the same shorter NC-5 cup as the FZ88R. I'm pretty sure all original SST802's came in the longer cup to allow room for the transistorized section behind the tach head. Still for something new with air core movement they look pretty cool

Had a ‘football’ Sun tach in my ’56 Olds way back then. Am putting the modern version of the old tach – not football – in my ’53 Chevy pickup.

The absolute best tach back in the 50’s was a Jones tach. Indy cars used them, Gold Cup boats used them, and some rodders with money did too.

Recently bought a new Moon Eyes tach off eBay for $65. Despite some problems reported on these tach's, this one does just what a tach is supposed to do. It has the look of an old time Sun.

Seems to be a lot of interest in old tachs lately. Anyway, here's a picture of the Sun "Football" tach in my '40 Ford.

  27. I just captured a S/W Greenline that I'll need to have converted to run without a box and be compatible with my Mag.

pretty cool looking tack and if I decide at a later date I need all my gauges to match I can easily come up with greenline gauges to go with it.

I'll snap a pic later gotta go change some head gaskets with a friend.

I've got one too and would like to use it. Who converts these to electronic ignition?

Scored this at a local swap meet last year, a NOS SW 765 still in the box. Took a while to find out what it needed for a transmitter and the wiring but ready to go now. The RPM limit could be a issue for some but should not be a issue with my old nailhead. Going to hang under the dash in a custom made bracket in my A coupe,
